Anno - those mushrooms are only like 4 feet tall. You need to hone your skills so you can get 3 tightly packed trays of 6 feet tall mushrooms before you can consider yourself a master cultivator.

Hey Anno, Would you mind explaining the casing material a little bit. Sounds like you'd get the best of all the worlds with the different materials put into one. What is the approximate mixture?

Cool, thanks for the post! Have you been having some sucess with this casing mixture? I have been debating the idea in my head for a little while and never really saw anyone use it before in the boards that I've browsed through.

Oh, I see i missed the question further up. The substrate and it?s depth makes the bigest difference. The fruits at these casings are plentyfull, but relatively small. On the second flush there are usually less mushrooms, but those being larger. If you want big mushrooms, go with straw or compost or pasteurized dung.

Thanks Anno, your responses always help out a lot! Just had one more thing in mind right now. From whats been happening, I seem to be spending a lot more time on preparing substrate, and only 10% of it actually gets cased. I made like a whole bunch and so much has been tossed out mostly a problem on my part. Im going to work on adjusting temperature and all that. My question: 1) Have you worked with Treasure Coast strain? 2) I took a spore print from a larger than usual shroom of a treasure coast. If I use this print, will the ones that come from it be just as big as this? I have this strain but I want to know if you recommend me changing over to Equador. Oh yeah and my Puerto Ricans are all messed up, I gave up on them (but may make a spore print just for later Just understand that I've been doing this for a few months now, im getting better at it. Not a newbie , cause I know most of the stuff about this.

>I took a spore print from a larger than usual shroom of a >treasure coast. If I use this print, will the ones that come >from it be just as big as this? Depnds on substrate and other factors. I grew the same Ecuador isolate at pasteurized dung, and it gave me just a few but monster shrooms. On birdseed it gives many small fruits. But don?t forget - the genes in the spores of both shrooms - being grown on birdseed or dung - are identical, if grown from an isolate. So even from a small print you can obtain monster shrooms with the right choice of substrate. On the other hand, why would a few big mushrooms be more desirable than many small ones?

Thats a good point about how it doesn't really matter whether the fruits are big or not. I just need a bigger yield for the size im getting. Most likely the factors such as substrate or casing can greatly increase mass yield. But thanks Anno. One good thing is getting a whole bunch of spores from the bigger cap, although it doesn't really make a big difference since there are so many in each print anyway. Im gonna try buying Antonius cabinet tomorrow, wish me luck in find it. hehe. So what experience do you have with Treasure Coast anyway?

You could try the fractional sterilsation: A sterilisation method used to destroy bacteria and spores in preparation of grain spawn(rye, what, birdseed...) which requires no pressure cooker. In this case, the jars fitted with a filter or a polyfil lid filter are boiled or steamed 212?F (100?C) for 30 min in a covered pot, three days in a row. Between the boiling steps the jars are best kept warm, around 30?C, to allow the remaining spores to germinate. The basic principle behind this method is that any resistant spores should germinate after the first heating and therefore be susceptible to killing during the second and third heating.

5 parts peat based potting soil 5 parts vermiculite 5 parts coco coir 1 part limestone 1 part oystershells what else was in the peat based potting soil and if it's not too much trouble what are the approximate measurements? If I could find itin the states what is the brand name? Would 5 parts plain sphagnum peatmoss work just as well? did you sterilize or just mix and case? Thanks

back to your talking about substrate - do you find that despite growing bigger shrooms - bulk substrates actually yield less in terms of weight?? If you had say 500mls of colonised birdseed and 500mls (as an example) of manure i would be right in saying that you'd get far fewer but bigger mush off the manure but that weight wise your better off on millet?

Exactly. The good thing is that you can prepare bigger amounts of bulk substrates in a shorter time, and that they are cheaper than grains (pasteurising straw for instance)...

Heya Anno. Do you work with the Ecuador strain often? I want to find a strain that works for me.. I'm going to try alot of the cubensis strains. So far I've only fruited B+ and TC, I liked B+ but I don't like TC very much, the ones I fruited were very small. Next up are tassies.. how are these like? Oh, and where do you live, if not in the states?
