Do you mean to eat, or to replant?

Just plant a cacti tip into some fresh cacti mixture a few inches deep, it will start to grow roots within a month. Don't water it for several weeks after planting.

I always dip the bottom of the cacti in rooting hormone before I replant.

I've had a lot better luck off of the bottom rooted portion than the tip. I have three large pups growing on one right now. The tip from the same cactus is still just sitting there. It is still green but it isn't showing any growth worth a hoot.

The top cut will grow faster, because it will begin growing straight up from the growth point as soon as it sets up some roots. A center cut will have to establish roots, then set pups before it can do any growin. The good thing about the center cut is that after your pups get about 6inches or so just cut them off and repot, then the original will sprout more pups and the repotted pups will grow up big =)

High

Does not matter, speed is in the length.
See www.meneercactus.nl and go san pedero watch some pics.

I have made about 100 cuttings with very good results. Better with non top because they make more branches
