pardon me, I'm a bit stoned, but I think the Beatles are probably the best band of all time. They are such a poppy, groovy, surfy, rock & roll band - but can also pull off more sophisticated and experimental stuff, such as psychedelia. Anyone else think the Beatles are an amazing band?

I'm listening to She Said, She Said from Revolver

Respect the opinion... just don't agree.

Definitely amazing... but musically and philosophically they don't even compare to some bands out there.... but this is alllll opinion

To be honest, I dont like them AT ALL. They irritate me, I'm not sure how or why, they just rub me the wrong way, always annoyed me in highschool when my friends would gush all over them, play their songs and go on and on about how amazing they were.

Yes, they are a talented band, yes, they had a huge influence on the music that followed them (and I thank them for that).

But, as for actually enjoying their music? not in the least.

Where's that Beatle guy? Shouldn't he be posting right about now?

I recently got a couple of George's solo albums. "All Things Must Pass" and "Wonderwall." They are both a lot more out there than the Beatles ever got, and are really good albums.

I think up until 1964-65 until they met Bob Dylan (Dr Robert from Revolver) they were an above average Merseybeat band - ok, they pretty much 'invented' that style and sound.

After Rubber Soul, things got interesting.  I think the best 20 or so minutes of popular music EVER recorded is on Abbey Road - the whole section from Mean Mr Mustard onwards - amazing - totally amazing.

Abbey Road and The Beatles (White Album) are their best works IMHO.

What I find with The Beatles is that they were constantly striving to push back the boundaries of what they could do, what the technology could do, and to a certain extent, what their audience would allow them to get away with!  You have to cite George Martin as an incredibly important part of their whole creative process too - they simply would not have been who they were with someone else at the helm.

The Beatles are an object lesson for ANY band trying to make music today.  If you follow their urge for creativity and change (as well as Hendrix too, but for different reasons) then their natural musical successors today are people making techno/drum and bass/experimental/noise/pop.....anything that is looking to the future, music that as yet does not have a label or genre, music that Google won't find a page for!  Some 13 year old kid in his bedroom making electronica with hand wired old keyboards making glitch beats with the distorted vocal samples of his local street corner preacher, couple with spanish guitar loops is probably closer to the spirit of invention displayed by The Beatles than Oasis etc. ever will be.

Listen to I am the Walrus or Strawberry Fields Forever on some good LSD and you'll believe alright!

Hallo!

Best band ever, yes.

My favourite band, yes.

LOVE EM!

Can't wait to go see Paul when he next tours.

As is the norm, I don't really think much of the stuff before Rubber Soul. After that though, it's all fucking magic.

I just saw "The Magical Mystery Tour" for the first time a couple weeks ago on a low dose of mushrooms. It was freakin' hilarious! Very British and psychedelic and strange... I also felt like I'd seen it before almost. When I first started listening to The Beatles, album by album, I'd felt that same sense of familiarity. I think it's because they so influenced pop music after them, and I'd probably heard dozens or hundreds of covered songs (like Tiffany's "I Saw Him Standing There" ) before hearing the originals. Anyway, long story short: The Beatles are fucking awesome!
ps I agree that George Martin was a major influence in their sound, they might've sucked without him (though we'll never know).

Absolutely greatest band of all time. They led the charge in many ways. Not just the music, but the way they were. It was like Gods came down form Olympus for a few years, at first getting us to like them with their approachable pop, and then giving us a glimpse of their world with the Studio Years. Of course, this is all opinion, but one that I think is pretty well represented across the board.

I love the Beatles because they are such versatile and unique musicians. They evolved so much from their roots and created such innovative new music. There is truly no other band that sounds like the Beatles, they have the most creative and original sound - at least IMO. and yeah, I agree with LuciferSam, Abbey Road is amazing.

It has been said that "The Beatles are the seventh wonder of the world".

Best rock & roll band of all time? Most likely, yes.
