SPawning Straw..
    #5279588 - 02/08/06 09:58 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

I have two small containers of straw spawning in my TiT alongside my other jars.

I have noticed a smell comming fomr them, more so than a few hours ago. It is kind of bittersweet, but i really cant explain it. This is myfirst time doign straw so I dont know much about contams or what straw usually smells like. I had to toss out other contamed jars yesterday.

There is no visible coloration, and myc seems ot be colonizing pretty fast.

this is pissing me off because I hate to see my work go to waste.

QUESTIONS:

How can I be sure its a contam?

What does moist, spawning straw smell like?

IF it is a contam, should I worry about my other jars (covered with bandaids or polyfil) catching the contam?

If you properly pasteurized it, let it go. Green molds seem to be a much bigger problem with straw than bacteria, which is what would make the project smell like garbage. If you see any green, be sure to toss it out.
