what do i do with grain jars?

hey guys i have grown cakes b4 and i wanted to try to case so i bought the basic casing kit for like 60 bux from mushbox.com, and it came with "3 grain jars" they are really large (prolly 2 pints), 3/4 full jars full of what looks like birdseed and with aluminum foil on top wrapped around the lid and then syran wrap is wrapped all over the entire jar. the jar is not wide mouthed, so if ur supposed to make it into a cake u wouldn't be able to get the cake out whole...
my question is am i supposed to inoculate this jar or do i take the grain out and use it to make cakes or what? sorry for the dumbass question but the kit said it came with an edible spore syringe and instructions and neither came

inoculate it by squirting 1-2 cc/ml of spores into the grain and then shake it up to mix the spores around real good. then incubate like you would a pf jar.
when the jars are fully colonized you take some pasteurized poo and lay a sheet of moist vermiculite down, add a layer of poo, layer of grains, another layer of poo and some vermiculite for the top to protect it all like your pf jars have...the vermiculite top coating.
or case the grains by adding the moist vermiculite, layer of grains, and layer of vermiculite again...and you will have a WBS casing.
anything else???
p.s. you did get jacked on the supplies. bird seed is 15 bucks for 50 lbs and jars are $8.99 @ wegmans, p&c, and walmart. the rest was for heating it in a pot for an hour and tin foil.

It usually takes 2 weeks to colonize grain, although several people will promptly respond and say they have faster results.
Do what thenewguy05 said. After 1 week, shake again to disperse colonized grains. After another week, it should be ready. You can case the grain in a tub, or you can use it to inoculate pasteurized straw/dung/compost.
Edit: the times here are for quart jars filled about 2/3 full with millet. Your mileage may vary.

I was actually going to say sometimes it takes longer than two weeks if your temps aren't optimal...could take 3-4 weeks. don't worry if it does take longer, a lot of factors come into play when talking colonization speed.

newguy05, u da man, yeah i'm not gonna mess with straw and poo or whatever, i have some verm, but they didn't put much verm in there at all so i think i'll go get more to make the casing layer, but tahts a bit of a ways away
Fungus man, i too realized that it was bs, but what could i do? i really thought i was getting more.. but i had already bought it and recieved my stuff so i was just like oh well.. thx for laughing and yeah im aware of the search feature, since in all likelyhood i made my first cakes b4 u knew what the shroomery was (01 or 02), but i've never fucked with anything more than brf and verm and all i did was birth the cakes and fruit them directly so i don't know anything ab casing

not sure if i read it right but don't put any vermiculite in the jars. just to the bottom of the pan when you case is when you will need the vermiculite.
also watch out when you eat them they will be much more potent than BRF cakes. Grains contain much more nutrients.
Read these~ http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/par/7971 http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/par/23805
get to know them like "the back of your hand" so to speak so you won't mess them up when it comes time.
good luck!!!

Hmm... I assumed that what you got was pre-sterilized. If this is the case, then the water balance should already be set. 1-2cc of LC/spores per jar is all you need.
If it's not presterilized, then you REALLY got ripped of.

is there a way to give you two karma? this responses are a big help and really simplify this for me...
no i just meant the verm which came in the package, there is no verm in the jars
that is awesome that they will be more potent!! i have taken an 1/8th reguarly and never had even closed eyed visuals... they were good shrooms though so i was beginning to think i was "immune" to tripping haha
so this is last q guys before i study for a couple hrs... how can i tell if they already have water added? they feel heavy but they are large and i don't know how thick the glass is or how big/heavy the grains are

Usually the grains will look moist/glistening in bright light if they are ready.
It's hard for me to visualize what the lid looks like without a picture, but it seems like it's been sterilized.

Well let's hope you got what you OVERpaid for and the jars are presterilized. In which case the person who made them would have got the grain to the proper moisture content first. (If not someone needs a kick in the ARSE!)

I can't imagine anyone sending you WBS in jars that hasn't been pre-sterilized!~

to fungusman... you say that kit is worth 5$ ? HA I would like to see you put that together for 5$... pc'ing the jars and preparing ingredients , and time involved is easily worth the 60$ , and free shipping on it at that also. AND its gauranteed.
lol im sick of people knocking the kits at mushbox they are really good. And if any customers have ever had a problem they always either give the money back or send extra supplies , for free.
you can see tons of positive results and info about those kits at the shroomtalk forums.
it seems alot of people hack the kits because they say you can do it yourself for cheaper, well what about people who dont have the knowledge, or time to set it all up?
Also you can build ALOT of things yourself for cheaper but you dont often see it done. Try building your own bike with custom metal, and ordering all the individual parts.. I bet it would be cheaper but all the time spent building it and ordering would equal out to the same price as just goin and buying the bike already made.
makes sense to me.
regarding the jars.. EVERY jar that comes from mushbox with the kits is already pre-sterlized and ready for inoc.
