What causes the lingering effects after taking LSD?

Why do so many of us continue to trip for days/weeks/months after taking LSD? Is it staying in our system in small amounts? Is it some neuro problem?
And does anyone who is knowledgable about the chemistry of it all, is there anyway to flush our systems and get rid of it? Maybe drinking a lot of water? Anything?
I just wonder. I also wonder why so many people never mention this part of LSD. Everyone acts like its this amazingly great thing. Yet it causes so many of us problems, and a lot of us consider it suffering. Why the suppression of the knowledge of those symptoms?
I wonder about all 3 of those paragraphs. Anyone have any answers?

I've heard it lies dormant in fatty deposits in your body, and I've also heard that it's completely out of your system in like, a day. I'm no professional but I can point you to some professional writings.

well first of all, someone please correct me if im wrong.. but lsd is not what makes you "trip" lsd just "triggers" "something" in the brain that provokes you to trip correct?
and secondly... if this is the case... how do mushrooms work? do they also just "trigger" something... or do the actual chemicals in shrooms make you trip?

I would think that the LSD binds in the receptors in the brain, which causes the things that normally bind to not bind, thus leaving an excess amount in the blood, and THAT is what makes you trip. But I have no friggin clue, that is a totally uneducated guess. I was hoping someone who was knowledgable could spill it out to us short and sweet in laymen's terms, so we didn't have to do all kinds of research.
