im thinking about putting light inside a double martha. can i put compact flouros in, socket and all? i want to have light sources directly above the shelved casings since they are going to grow towards the light.

I don't have a martha, but my FC does have small 5watt light. Mainly used to veiw during the darker days or nights. About 5:30pm the light will come on for 2 hours. No ill effects at all. I have used the lights your talking about. In a martha you might be ok. the light itself is fine, but they can put out some heat.

Well i'm not going to disagree with your own findings. However I have used these light for about 4 years. thier perfect, but my findings tell me their down fall is heat. Not saying that they can't be used, or you might have the same outcome as me. Just simply stating what I obsevred. Agian...I didn't have something the size of a martha to disipate the heat. all the heat was localized in the same area as the bulb which was inches (maybe 5) from the growing mushrooms.

most martha setups that i have seen all had the light on the outside. humidity of 91% sounds like a fire hazard.
heat is not an issue with flouro lights.
why place the light in the martha??? it's not like it's going to make them grow faster and it's really not worth losing your house to a house fire because you wanted it YOUR way.

i want the light to come perpendicular to the substrate. 90% rh doesnt sound good for electrical sockets to me either. however, i have seen people with tube flouros and xmas lights and shit in that humidity.
not trying to make them grow more quickly. shrooms tend to grow towards a light source so i want a perpendicular source.
it did not sound like a good idea to me at first until i remembered that a lot of people have lights in their chambers. i'm thinking i might just rotate the trays so they don't get light all coming in from one angle.

Even if you want your shrooms to grow right up towards the light there's no need to use fluorescent right above for the shroom to grow straight as trees! They will grow towards the light but they will not climb on the light beam....So to speak. Just make sure that the lights is above some what and that your casing containers is opaque. An waterproof light fixture is prolly a lot more expensive than a normal.
Good luck.

I use natural light - the terrarium has a lid and perlite keeps it humid - would artificial light help with pinset?
