Q about straw...
    #527539 - 01/21/02 05:40 PM (22 years, 2 months ago)

Dude got these blocks a few weeks back, if he comes across more what should he do:

If you guys had a some blocks like these (dude said they are simple to make), what would you do with them? I think that casing would be the way to go, but it is hard to come up with an idea of what to put the block in(he original container in not available).

Well I am lost to as the condirion of the block is it dead or did it just stop showing signs of life??

You could simply break it up put it into a different container i.e. a bin and case it.

I'm sorry, I was just trying to be funny. The cake/brick is doing just fine. I was really just asking how it should be fruited. Tests will follow...

Just case it.

But try laying it on it's side so both side would fruit at the same time.
Like a PF style cake but square I bet the harvest would be much bigger but with less flush because the substrate would be used (eaten up) fasater

Jammer Tek:
(GOOD FOR CAKES AND TRAYS)
-------------------------------------

Sit bricks in containers, such as Rubermaid(R) ones ... (use no top). Sit the container with the brick(s) in it on top of 1/2 pint upside down jars in an aqurarium. Fill bottom of fish tank with at least 3" of water and a little h202 (bleach can be used for a hasty alternative)- just a few caps worth. Place a fish bubbler (aquriarum air pump feed airstone) under the water and weigh the airstone down with something. Place transparent air tight top on aquraium with a small florecent light. Pay carefull atention to temps (a 24 hour light can raise temps a good 10 degrees) and humidity. Little calibration should be needed.

Case if desired. (some never case straw).

I cased mine w/ 50/50+ oyster/gypsum. I got trich after a few days. You've gotta be careful when you use peat. I would suggest casing as from what I understand your fruits will be nicer. I am going to try a different casing next time, maybe coir. I am going to shy away from the 50/50 due to the probs w/ trich I've been having. You can break it apart to fit it into a container, however, I bet if you looked around your local store you could find a container that would be the right size. I've been told that little external humidity is required if the straw was soaked properly. Just place it inside a fruiting chamber. The straw and casing should provide enough humidity.

My main issue with casing teks is how easily the trays can become containamated. I must agree with McMan on this one... with this most popular tek the air has to be pretty damm clean (even filtered).

I think that one of these bricks that was left in the original shoebox it was spawned in. It was cased 50-50, the casing layer was deep(1.25 inch), but the straw was about 3 in deep too. I'll look for the pictures, they are from a while back...

Here is a pic of them just starting out, I cant find a final pic of this flush... I'll keep looking...
