Dangers of using TYVEK

Ok... so it took me this long to figure out the dangers of using tyvek. It is now my worst enemy. I kept wondering why my jars would colonize fine, and then about a week after inoculation, the tops of my jars would turn yellowish orange.
between the tyvek, and the jar lid i am breeding bacteria. i want to post this so people can see the dangers of using tyvek... as opposed to polyfill filters. please move this thread if you feel neccessary, but since it has to do with cult, i feel it should stay here.

This is what ALL my jars look like... and smell sour.

This is what i found under my jar lids.
Hell... i couldn't find out what was wrong with my jars, so i even put a link to my contam issues in my sig, hoping to find answers... little to know it was under my nose the whole time
I knew it wasn't a contam with my LC, because i am doing 1/2 pt's also, and they turned out great! i love LC. but I HATE TYVEK
Polyfill, i never ment to leave you.... but i'm back baby!~

I don't understand how the bacteria could be in there to breed, considering the PC should have taken care of it. Oh well, thanks for the heads up.

Put the tyvek on top of the jar lids, but under the rings, and screw it down TIGHT. Keep them in a dry area.

I use tyvek over jar and then polyfill in that hole in the middle of the lid and all of that covered with 2 coffee filters. I never get that, and those almost look like burn marks from the hot lid....

I've used tyvek-topped jars for a variety of species for a long time without bad results, once I figured out my technique.
I use aluminum foil on top of rings on top of tyvek on top of the jar, no lid. inoculate through the tyvek, and place tape over the hole. Keep the foil on to prevent dust from getting on the lid.
Works every time.

i had that same problem last time i used tyvek. between the lid and tyvek was orange and nasty. this round im using synthetic filter discs, so hopefully they will work better.
there has to be some good in tyvek tho since so many people use it..

^^^ That makes sense, I did the same exact thing. maybe it's some residue from your grains, and when you PC it sort of stays in the tyvek?

i use alum foil over top while pc'n... and usually cover with coffee filters for dust protection. Ran out of rubber bands. but my jars with the coffee filters are doing the same thing.
as for placing tyvek over the jar lid, i don't find to do that for the fact i don't want a tough time finding the hole
and for using "just" tyvek, and no jar lid... i heard this dries out the grain pretty darn quick. have never tried it.
but again... i am sticking with the pollyfill.... and tyvek owes me 3 months of my life back

Yes, it does dry out the grains. That's why I leave the foil on, loosely enough for gas transfer.
Everyone has their own method...
Maybe the Tyvek in the Planetary Nebula is particularly shitty.
Edit: this post in no way is meant to criticize the Panetary Nebula, and if it should anger anyone, it's the Planetary Mafia. You're not in the Planetary Mafia, are you???

You can just put a dot with a marker where the hole is so you know where it is.

The tyvek application method above, has worked for me, for years.
I don't think the tyvek is all of your problem. Your jars may contain to much moisture. And/or, you are introducing some bacteria, when you innoc.
You might try tyvek, as above.
I developed a small adhesive filter patch, that works well. (to costly to buy the EQT to mass produce, so - I never did)
You might also try MICROPORE TAPE.

All of the above, have worked WELL, for me.

There's the problem. You have contams falling through the hole onto wet tyvek. If your jars are colonizing in high humidity, the tyvek being under the lid is holding as much moisture as the sides of the jar. And if you shook those jars, it would transfer nutes to the tyvek. That would be a way to set up a contam problem.
just plug that hole with polyfil, the tyvek below will push on the polyfil wad to create a good barrier. If you want to try tyvek on the outside, drill the hole dead center, and use a 3/8 inch bit, you'll never miss

I am using Micropore tape... in addition to the tyvek
i know it's not my innoc. because of the fact that i made 1/2 pt's also. they are almost finished, and looking splendid i might add.
the jars look wet i know, but they should still colonize without a hitch
onetime: think i should just do the tape?... tyvek is goin in tha trash!
