Panaeolus is reportedly easily contaminated on straw. Never tried it myself, but there you go.
Mexicana has a mycelium that is rather more wispy and slow growing, as compared to eg. cubensis, in my experience. Panaeolus, in my, and others' experience also has a comparatively wispy mycelium. I never said Panaeolus was slow growing.
