gypsum has rather unique chemical properties that help loosen soils, or in most cases grains.

I don't think there is a good substitute, nor do I know of an alternative source for gypsum other than gypsum from a garden supply. I think I read somewhere that plaster was *insert something used in our hobby*. Maybe it is gypsum, but I don't remember. I would be worried about additives in any alternative source for gypsum, as it seems to me that if it really is just gypsum, then people would just know to use gypsum instead of whatever the alternative is.

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.
