hey all, i need to resterilze some jars that contam'd, i emptied the contents, washed out with soap and about to throw them in the PC... i'm thinking 15psi @ 30min or something, but my question is do i fill the jars with water as well as the pressure cooker, and if so, how much water?
thanks

Water helps transfer the heat better. Just make sure you keep the lids loose.

i wasnt even going to put the lids on them, just let them sit in there... and throw the lids at the bottom of the pc.

There's no reason to sterilize them all alone. As long as they are cleaned + dried well, just hit them next time you cook up a batch of grains or whatever you do. It will accomplish the same thing, but this way you don't cook them twice.

Yep, don't bother. If you are really worried, just let them sit with bleach water in them for 20 mins or so. Then rinse well. But like HolyDriver said, they will be sterilized next time you PC with grain (or whatever) in there! Why waste the time and energy

Yea, it wouldn't hurt to put water in the jars - it's all just a mess of steam and boiling water inside a pressure cooker anyway, so water will get in your jars regardless. Some people recommend soaking your jars in a water/bleach solution if your jars were previously contaminated, then rinsing out really well. As long as you PC them for about an hour and 15 minutes at 15 PSI there won't be anything alive to worry about You can never be too careful with contamination protection, I guess

yeah, the only reason im doing this is because ive had a lot of problems with black mold, now it may be something else im doing, but the black mold SUCKS.. especially cleaning it out, i have to do it outside since a huge gas pile of black smoke emits from it (EEK). anyways, im just being overcautious, but i want it to go right this time, ive had it fail on me too many times.
