Hubberts Peak Theory
    #5273468 - 02/07/06 01:14 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

So...it is now the year 2007
In 1956 Mr. Marion King Hubbert came up with a wonderful theory that US oil produce will peak in the 70's and the worlds by 2000. He was correct about US, the oil production peaked in '71. However, he did not account for the 70's oil shocks which is why his predictions about world peak are a little behind the schedule.

The black stuff is running out. Russia's production peaked in '87 and Britain's in the late 90's. In fact, most of the world has already peaked...excluding the middle eastern oil fields that is .

The facts are these: we are running out of oil and there isn't any new black gold to be discovered...this will lead to a major global economic collapse.

The industrial nations are going to be hit the hardest. Unemployment, civil unrest, scarce amounts of food are going to be available.

All pesticides are oil based, all machinery that is used in food production is depended ENTIRELY on fossil fuel. It takes 10 fossil fuel calories to produce 1 nutrition calorie...so what are we to do?

Could our industrial utopia be just a little spike in the history of mankind?

Everyone knows this has been long time coming.

"That means by 2010 we will need in the order of an additional fifty million barrels a day"
-VP Dick Cheney, 1999

...and the funny part is, no one seems to be concerned...these facts have been so censored it isn't even funny.

Pluto

p.s. go ahead and google "peak oil"

Hydraulic Fracturing will extend the life of the oil industry for a few more decades while we wean off this 'black gold'.

Personally, I'm looking forward to it.  I've learned about this at university and I had read about it before that, but it will just be the end of CHEAP oil keep in mind, not all fossil fuels.  They're researching ways to put liquid coal into cars, and the Canadian tar sands have more oil than all the middle east, just it's in the worst possible form making it expensive, but it's still there.  I think it will definately change everything, like we'll have no other alternative but to transition into some form of a sustainable, green economy, but I doubt people will actually be starving in the streets.  Just oil truks will start getting armed escorts that take them to the different farming sectors as we all do what we can to make money while keeping a small environmental foot print...  edible mushroom farming, anyone?

Also, the apocolypse factor will be reduced a lot by the oil companies themselves, just through price gauging. The closer the oil peak gets, the more oil they wont drill, because if they sell it after the peak hits it'll be worth a hundred times more

Canadian oil sands will just be a hassle
the "energy returned to energy invested" rate for the oil sands is about 1.5:1 comparing to crude oils 30:1
...besides, in a situation like that, Im pretty damn sure Canadians are gonna want to hold on to their oil sands for domestic use.

I can almost smell the activity in the nuclear energy sector.

Do a search in the political forum for "Peak Oil". There are several threads about it in there. Also, trendal is our resident Peak Oil conspiracy theorist/expert.

More expensive means of oil production will be introduced to compensate for the low production. There's plenty of oil left and we won't run out in our lifetimes. Anything showing otherwise has an agenda, false. It will just become very expensive.

Wow I'm so stoned and I've been reading through Bruce DePalma's work.

The N-Machine sounds like a very interesting concept.

http://www.mufor.org/nmachine.html

The US wont allow people to patent the machine because it creates more energy than it consumes - which totally defies the current laws of physics. The US isn't interested in Free Engergy.

"Other scientists-inventors who attempted to build and operate free energy machines have been intimidated and harassed by the U.S. government. At least one inventor had his device confiscated by the Defense Department on the grounds that its free energy technology endangered national security interests. This inventor was put under a gag order, so that he could not even tell the press that his N machine had been confiscated. This is ironic when one considers that the idea for the N machine came directly from a famous experiment performed by Michael Faraday in 1831."

(Faraday is the man who discovered induction and the measurement of capacitance was named after him.)

It's a very interesting read.

The issue attracts a lot of "doomers" who would have you believe that our entire civilization is about to decompose overnight :smirk:

I understand that, but how fucked? Will we stop having electricity in our homes? Will we have to use trains or horse and buggy? How far is it going to set us back?

That's not something I think anyone can answer, at least not this early. This is not going to be something sudden. It will take decades. Some people will probably lose electricity for at least periods of time. Almost everything depends on where you live and how that area can cope with a decreasing energy supply.

That's what I am wondering. I think there is only one answer to that; only time will tell.
Im pretty sure that the folks down in Bolivia and Chile wont feel it as much as say US and Britain.
