free 250meg host so 45 sec wait and a popup. Hey, I'm a starving artist!
My art form is the abstract moving image. More specifically Direct on Film animation. I take 35mm movie film and leader then create animation directly on the film using acids, paints, pens, razors, flame, etc etc.. This work is tailor made for the Ps. Cub. user at 1 hour in.. It is guaranteed to create a solid stable trip and has several areas that cause euphoria in most everyone +++ and under. It stands up grand on it's own as just a work of art.
I'm starting to get my short films off Beta SP tapes and into the realm of HD and the Net. The files are usually 200meg+ so I can't get them out fast enough.
'Untitled 1' is 16:9 NTSC/PAL level of quality and PD.. enjoy.

did you follow the path to 'it' or are you having problems with the path?

sorry but i think it plain sucks... almost any winamp visual pluging makes a much more interesting expiriance then that... it's much too choppy and noncoherant (SP?) to follow it has almost no flow and everything seems exagurated (like PSing an image and using too much contrast, saturation and sharpness (or maybe that was just the low quality AVI?)

Lets see, it took me several days to burn, bleach, scratch and paint on the 35mm movie film. A week to get the 35mm film sent to Kodak for the dump to Beta SP video tape. Then I had to take the analog tape and scan it in a frame at a time to .TGA files that were put on a 100meg ZIP disk. It was made back when photoshop was below 2.5 and it took 6 macs running for 26 hours to manipulate the .TGA files with swirl and twirl. Then it took 8 hours on the first Avid Xpress at RIT to compose, edit and do the masking and then dump the final work to beta SP tape from the massive 10gig SCSI drive that cost $30,000.
I guess it would seem strange and simple to a generation that grew up on 'visualations' and cd burners.
Thanks for the input. I do disagree with you on the flow of the work but being an abstract animation means you see what you see. You are the first person ever to say it sucks though but I haven't shown it in years.

simisu - I'd be interested in your views on the short film I did that same year - final project for BFA degree. Murder drama - actual story stuff. I'll post it as soon as it gets uploaded.
.. and you are correct about the video quality, I waited to long to get my old work off the Beta SP and S-VHS tapes. I'll send the film back for a DV tape dump.

i had no doubt it took alot of effort to make... i'm just being honest about my impression... i'm not 16 so i remember exectly what 1998 was like but you have to agree that most visualisation programs kinda look like that and do a better job at looking like that... and as for the film bleach/burn... i personally didn't like how you presented it (too fast and blurry to make out any detail... yeah its abstract but not an interesting abstract (to me anyway) and again this might be 10 times better in the original but i wouldn't know)

I don't think that's actually a good comparison, it's like saying a computer can process a lot more data on a database per minute than a human being. Well, of course it can! But that doesn't make it less of a IT (machine), while the other is the expression of a human being and consequently has a lot more room for... will I dare say art? Afterall, the machine is only taking data from a wave, putting colors and deforming the wave according to mathematical formulae. He had to discover how to get those effects and work his ass off to get them.
Also, there's something about doing things the old way that I like... call it detail, art, craftmanship, schizophrenia, whatever, I still like it
I disgress, but my point is just that you can't compare a human being with a computer...
No offense meant of course! Just my humble opinion

deepman... all is good and well...
like i said i have no doubt alot of work and "art" as you put it went into this creation i think we just have diffrent POV critiques... you can admire the work that went into the peice but i only look at the outcome in todays standards and it just lacks IMHO
once a computer was used it just makes it a primitive digital work for me if you had the same work of art as a raw metirial (lets say a picture) and you wanted to do some more work on it using photoshop would you use the first one or the latest one?
