Dont even really need a tek
put some water in a PC jar, 200ml is fine. drip some honey in and stir till its a light yellow color. put your polyfil/tyvek/whatever lid on. PC at 15psi for 20 minutes. let cool. inoculate. wait.

Most beginners dont have a Pressure Cooker at their disposal.

The microwave works great for my LC. Then from there just put it on an oven rack with the oven on like 200 or so and scrape some spores in or you could just inoculate with a syringe.

You can boil it too.
Otto spelled it out for newbs that just have to see something to believe it. Much like a Playboy, they just like to skip to the articles with pictures in them

yeah most dont have a PC.
But, I think that its a good idea to at least build a cheap glove box if your going to be using LC.

Its always good to be more sterile - yes. But if you dont - you can still have success. I just want to get people past the stage of thinking - "wow, glove box, pressure cooker, filtered air ports - it all sounds too hard" - and back to the basics for newbs who just want to try their hand at giving it a go.
Realistically - I think a lot of people are put off by the processes that sound complicated and expensive or neededing to be 'completely sterile', whereas it doesnt need to be this way - people can easily start a grow using some alcohol spray from the supermarket for cleaning your work area, a spore print, a simple LC tek, the 'PF tek for simple minds' and a plastic bucket from the hardware store for fruiting - the hardest part is getting the syringe.
This shouldnt cost more than $30-$40 really - and is a window to whether or not you might want to progress further with this hobby.

Yep. I'd been interested in the whole process of growing shrooms for years but never tried it because of all the people who insisted you pretty much had to set up a Biolevel 4 lab in a closet or you'd be doomed to growing and being consumed by The Swamp Thing. But through spending a few weeks here reading and a few people claiming sucess with, or simply expressing the possibility of sucess, less complex sterilisation methods I decided to bite the bullet and just give it a go.
My sterilization technique included boiling 12 jars in a pasta pot, stacked in 2 layers, with only a single layer of foil covering the top of each jar for an hour and a half (Then doing 6 new jars after realizing I'd missed the part about not letting the jars contact the bottom of the pot directly ). Then I sat down in the living room, sprayed a few bursts of Ozium, and inoculated my jars while watching TV. Flame and alcohol swab my syringe, tear off the foil, inoculate, and then cover the jar with a double layer of coffee filters, repeating the process for all 12 jars.
3 weeks in and not one of my jars has shown any sign of Contams. If I continue growing I know eventually odds say something will slip through and I'll have a problem, but that's OK. Even a miniscule success rate would be more then acceptable to me in losing the clutter and expense of HEPA filters, glove boxes, pressure cookers, and all that kind of stuff. A least for now. A lot of people say "I'd do this differently" or "I'd do that differently" but most of those people are far more involved and ambitious then I am. I'm not looking for peak potency or 5lb yeilds at this point, I just want to see some mushrooms grow.

my glove box cost me 13 dollars at wallmart. I still dont understand why a glove box would scare a beginner away. I know that you dont need one, and you can try growing without...But its a small investment, and a tiny step, that can yield drastically improved contam rates. Im sure alot of people are turned off of growing mushrooms with a miserable first attempt. If your gonna do something you should do it right
but thinking back to when I was a noob, I would of tried otto's tek if I had known about LC's. Replace the boil with a PC, do the inoculation in a glove box, and you have what I do now basically.
