Losing touch with wonder
    #5271280 - 02/06/06 08:39 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

I put this in the philosophy forum because it is my favorite forum, and also because I am looking for a certain sort of answers.

I am becoming more and more jaded about life and everything I have encountered and continue to every day. I have less interest. I no longer believe that people can be psychic, or that we are spiritual beings. I feel it is likely that the intricate manner of the human brain makes us prone to delusions. Science finds the next best thing to truth - patterns. That is all that a smart person can really rely on to keep himself from becoming a nut job.

God, prayer, psychic activity, energy auras, spirits, a purpose to living, all this stuff I used to be convinced was for real. Now I just live day to day, and try to motivate myself to do my studying. I don't wonder so much anymore, because I just don't seem to get anywhere.

It seems to me you should just do what feels right.

Thats all there really is. It doesn't seem worth it to me to worry about things like if you wonder enough and think spiritually enough. You are perfect in whatever you are doing, so just try and manifest that.

I do feel you though. I know what you mean.

It seems all you should have to do is read a book or listen to a tape or something spiritual and see how you feel about it. If it doesnt feel right then maybe it isn't right for you right now.

What do you mean by "wonder"? Do you mean you don't want to ask questions anymore?

Well even when your "everyday citizen" has ego death it can be quite traumatic. Realizing what they knew before all their life now has no meaning at all.

I already know this and dont appreciate it much at all..well not as much as I should anyway.

Now imagine what your thinking as that subject. Its all along the same lines....like a child figuring out theres no santa. But that child continues on in life and discovers SO much more, that the santa discovery is completely irrelevant.

Keep searching in your life. Sometimes its dull, sometimes pointless. But its life and thats what its all about.

I was similar field of being a few years back. But then my beliefs in science, rationality and causality were destroyed by deeper academic studies and difficult relationships. Ironically this opened the world to more possibilities than I could previously entertain; in one sense the wonderment was retrieved, in one sense wonderment became something so low.

I don't see what your problem is though. You're aware your perception has changed, the only complication is motivating your body to do the things (e.g. studying) that it was previously habituated in doing. Maybe you can stop studying?

I think you're speaking from the perspective of a person who is a hard worker, and reaps the benefits of that. I am a person who has hard work to do and I'm slacking as much as possible. Fuck Bob Dobbs!! "Work is the only good thing" - John Steinbeck

maybe you aren't doing anything new, or that challenges you

sometimes, the farther you get outside of yourself, the closer you become in touch with yourself ... in essence, the more neutral/negative contrast you are exposed/expose yourself to, the more you are able to see the positive contrast when it is around ...

you also are able to take in more details around you in positive ways once you've been forced to focus on a challenging task(s) ... subsequently you will question more as you are able to closer critique the world around you with more knowledge and confidence ...

i find that my creative artworks and spiritual flows are more based on confidence in the trust of the divine flow, which seems to come from doing anything I can to benefit the world around me ... this includes daily work routines and fulfilling my basic responsibilities as well as ones above and beyond the call of duty ... it also includes meditations and focuses on whatever is troubling me, and even more on what really creatively inspires me ...

if you learn to follow the 'omens' set out in life for your own unique path, you will always find yourself in the most touch with your highest self

methinks

We as a people have seen so many wonderful amazing awe inspiring things that indeed much wonder is gone. You can see pictures, movies, and maps of anywhere in the world, man has been to the moon, you can drive 100mph, etc etc. Back in the day before all our great little inventions if a man wanted wonder he pretty much had one choice, go on an adventure. Walk from place to place meet people see new things, live without many possesions. This sort of life is near impossible today, with all sorts of restrictions on travel around the world, besides the high costs, adn dangers of our modern world. So we look for wonder where we are, not being able to take off work unless we want to lose our place.

But it no longer exists because there is no uncertainty anymore, we ride roller coasters for thrills, go to movies for adventures. We are sheep being told we are having all the excitment and adventure that we need but we are being lied to. The true state of man is not one of comfort and pampering. No, it is a state of uncertainty and peril, your life never garunteed.

Wonder has been taken from us as a people, because like so many other things long gone, wonder leads to new ideas about things. New ideas tend to lead to new people in power, and we all know how that idea sounds to the ones IN power. peace

Your lense has become cloudy with illusions. My advice is to take the icelander approach(i.e 5 grams in the woods)

I'm as jaded as jaded gets. Do not look for wonder, let wonder show itself to you. You will just get more and more jaded looking for it. It is still there, just not where you are looking. Much love.
