i have a 50 watt blue plant light from home depot, it should enduce pinning yes? i have 2 casings and im having a hard time slowing down the mycellium growth for pinning, i dropped my humidity and temp drastically after noticing my initial enduction didnt work.....im noticing the mycellium starting to slow down finally and moisture in the cakes seems good.....so my only thought is maybe my bulb is bad....i turn it on for atleast 6 hours a day and fan atleast 4 times a day. any tips? these are large casings....6-7 cakes each

The type of light really doesn't matter unless you're using a black light or red light(bad). You dropped the humidity? Not good. Mushrooms aren't plants bro, raise the humidity and fan alot.

I read that quick and missed the "casing" part of that. Make sure that light isn't raising the temps.

you know, i was wondering about that yesterday.....i noticed that the temperature is diff at the top of my closet....but at the bottom is cool....according to Galileo there hasn't been a "large" fluctuation but thats not exactly surface temp on the casings....if it doesnt get higher than 75ish i should be ok no? maybe im impatient, but im finding myself fighting overlay

http://www.shop.com/op/aprod-p21384985-k24-g4-~blue+fluorescent+spectrum+light-nover?sourceid=3
for the blue light trick to work then you need to have Blue Light The visible blue light has a wavelength of about 475 nm. Because the blue wavelengths are shorter in the visible spectrum, they are scattered more efficiently by the molecules in the atmosphere. This causes the sky to appear blue.
as you can see the blue light has a spectrem that is barely visible by the human eye. human eyes can see wavelanths rangeing from 400-700nm. so the light when on will apear to be a regular florecessent light.

I don't think I've ever heard more techno-BS in my life! Blue light isn't a "trick". It works just fine and is in the spectrum he needs to grow mushrooms, which is a very wide one.Do mushrooms need light to grow and how much?

Most people I have heard recomend at least a 12/12 light cycle to pin.

read paul staments book the mushroom cultivator he mentions a study done that says that lights that emit the blue spectrem seem to initate pining better than any other light. Although any light will work and shrooms need very very very little light paul suggests that a florescent light that emits the blue spectrem will initate pins just a little bit better. Its nice of you to call pauls work bull shit.Just becouse a incondescent light has blue glass dosnt mean that it emits the blue spectrem.

I have TMC and I agree, but what did this:

have to do with what Stamets says? This guy is obviously new to the hobby, so talking about the wavelengths that the eye can see and why the sky appears blue isn't going to help him. That's just my $.02 . If his light was designed for plant growth, it will work fine for mushroom growth. I'm not knocking what you said, just how you said it.

well a light that emits a blue wavelanth isnt going to apear blue. It isnt going to have blue glass or emit a blue that you will reconize as blue. It will apear white. That was my point. A blue light will work just as good as any other light. a light that emits blue wavelanths will work a little better. Just becouse the glass that the light has is blue dosnt mean that it will emit a blue wavelanth. Lights that have blue glass are full spectrem lights. The only lights that i have found that emit a blue spectrem are florescent lights that are made to stemulate reef growth in salt water aquariums. I have never seen a blue spectrem light for plant growth. I have seen lights called "daylight bule" witch are full spectrem lights with blue glass made for plant growth.

Cool man.
I just think your explanation was more suited for the adv cult forum then in here. That was alot of techno babble for a newb to comprehend and it wasn't explained in a clear way that related to the specific question he asked. I'm not going to jack this thread anymore though.

Well the main point i was trying to make is that if the light looks blue then its not the type that paul talks about. it should look white. as it is just barely withen reach of the human eye.
http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/EDDOCS/Wavelengths_for_Colors.html the U.S gov has some good info on this subject.
