who could give me a brief description of these words? In which situation do you use which?
psychedelic - psychotropic - hallucinogenic - entheogenic - psychoactive
I know entheogenic has a spiritual connotation, so isn't quite the same.
Did i miss a word that should also belong in this list?
Also, why do millions of people spell 'psychedelic' as 'psychadelic'? Is it an alternative but just as correct spelling?
please don't bother with replies such as: 'dictionary.com' or 'google.com'
thank you.
edit: forgot psychoactive

try english. it's spelled you're.
it has fuck all to do with just definitions . this is about the meaning of these words in comparison to one another, and in different context.
By now it's gotten painfully obvious that nobody here has a clue as to what the differences are, and when which term should be used. I guess this is the forum with those people that usually do talk of 'psychadelics'.

here, now that it's not 1am, I'm not so lazy.
psychedelic - I use this when I'm discussing hallucinogens with people that have never tried them. psychotropic - use: when I'm discussing drugs from a more medical / straight view, and only in use when I'm lumping all brain-effecting 'drugs' together. hallucinogenic - Usually I only use this word if I'm talking about the hallucinations I had, but in all actuality - this word is much too long for me to throw into casual conversations. entheogenic - I don't like this word. I don't think 'god' is in plants. psychoactive - derr, almost the exact same as psychotropic.

Psychedelic literally means 'mind manifesting'. It was a term first coined by Humphrey Osmond in 1956:
'To fathom Hell or soar Angelic, just take a pinch of Psychedelic'
I can't remember what book this was in though.

the word actually comes from Greek and it means something like 'becoming the god (inside yourself)' Very freely translated I would think it means something like: Getting in touch with your inner self. (everyone is his own 'god').

actually roughly translated it becomes "generating the divine within", but the spiritual new age connotations that the word brings is what I really don't like.

psychedelic - mind manifesting. Terence McKenna characterized it as letting the contents of your mind walk out of your head and parade in front of your face.
Psychotropic - drugs that affect mood or mind-state in some way. Alcohol is psychotropic, advil isn't.
Psychoactive - probably similar to psychotropic, though I don't know for sure.
Hallucinogenic - generates hallucinations. PCP and ketamine are generally considered "hallucinogens" though not "psychedelics"
entheogenic - new agey term that literally means god-creating, but tries to mean 'god releasing,' pretty much just loose etymology with an agenda, doesn't mean much really.

It's basically just different connotations.
psychedelic- rather bad connotation, brings up memories of hippies to many people, seems to be fading out of usage in favor of the others psychotropic- basically the same as psychoactive hallucinogenic- more scientific, but can also have negative connotations like psychedelic entheogenic- still hasn't really reached common usage, mostly used by drug users in an attempt to escape the negative connotations of "psychedelic" and "hallucinogenic" psychoactive- purely scientific for the most part, and just describes any substance that produces mental changes, noticeably intoxicating ones
I usually use "hallucinogen" myself, as that seems to be a non-bullshit term. If entheogen becomes widespread and common, I'll use that, but I don't know whether that will happen or not. As for now, ask a random person on the street what an entheogen is, and few will know, so it's not entirely useful.
