Glovebox Question

A friend of mine picked up a glovebox from Ebay and brought it over so I could take a look at it. Now, I've always used a flow hood so I don't know too much about this one. It's got a big hole in one side with a PVC and computer fan. The fan has a filter over the outside part and draws air in. So, how would one use this type of setup? Seems different because there is only one hole, rather than two?

What your dealing with is a positive pressure glove box. Basically the logic behind it is that the fan blows filtered air into the box creating a slight positive pressure inside the box so that nothing can enter it from the outside. This works well if the filter is working VERY well.
I like just a still air glove box. Meaning the whole thing is sealed up solid so there is no transfer of air at all.

The ones I have seen use a fan on one side, and a filter on the other. This one only has the one hole. I am basically asking HOW the best way to use this is? Should things be placed inside and then what??
thanx

The point of having the fan in the GB is that it can kind of act like a flow hood. You have positive pressure, so you can put things in and take things out while you're working without worrying about contaminants coming in.

Sorry, I should have done that from the get-go.
The fan has a filter on the other side, sort of like a pre filter on a flow hood....sort of. What I am asking is, how would one go about prepping for use? sterilize inside? Doing G2G inside? Etc...?
Thanx

Place all items inside after wiping them down with a sanitizer such as clorox wipes or a diluted bleach solution then spray down the inside of the cover as well as every surface inside then cover and let everything settle down for 20min or so turn on the fan and get to work ASAP. Hope your friend didn't pay too much for that and by too much I mean anything over $20 Still air GB's are still your bet bet hands down! GL

I don't see any hole for you to place things inside the box while you're working, so I don't see the point of the fan. You might as well not turn the fan on at all.

^^That's kind of what I thought. I have no idea how much he paid, I'll have to ask him. I say just invest in a damn flow hood....

I could be wrong but from the way that fan is set up it doesn't look like it will really draw much air in through the filter. Rather it will just circulate the air around inside or the glove box. Not to mention having a fan like that running in there while working is going to be a pain in the ass.
You can count my vote as one for the conversion to a still air.
