Preserving Peruvian Torch? Growing an old cutting?
    #5270109 - 02/06/06 04:16 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

Hmmm, so I've had some peruvian torch cuttings lieing around. I didn't consider myself capable of growing it, but now I feel more confident about myself and responsibilities.

I've had these cuttings for a few months now, and I was wondering if I they could still be used for growing. I'm aware that this may sound stupid, but I really don't know anything about growing or cultivation.

Also, assuming that it's too late to grow the cuttings, do you think they are still active?

Cuttings remain growable for a very long time, sometimes even after a year. To grow them just stick them in soil, maybe moisten the soil, but I've read you don't even need to do that. I'm sure they still hold the goodies.

Yeah, simple. Just put it dried base down on some cacti mix or sand on the ground in mostly shade because the cutting will burn up without being rooted and able to draw water. You know, if it's a tip piece or something. If it's a large cutting then maybe it can take more sun. If you grow it in partial shade it will stay stressed alot of the time like many nursery cacti which stay indoors for years until someone buys them or disease or mistreatment rot them.

I've had san pedros send out roots just sitting on my picnic table. They just started coming out from all along the length of the cactus.
