Portals. You can travel through time through things called portals. Only some have the capability of time traveling as others are stuck in the past. Some are in the future.
Church would be for those who wish to follow ancient faiths. Ancient is in the past, become the future and forget the past. Start a new time when things exist in a new light. We know longer have to worship god to get things. We can follow our own thoughts. Like most people do or you can go to church and follow his thoughts.
Your choice.

Those who would prefer to travel to the past in order to correct their mistakes live a life of regret. They lack the imagination required to solve their problems in the present.
Those who would prefer to travel into the future, they are the ones who prefer not to dwell, but instead wish to explore the unknown. They have a hunger for life and wish not to regurgitate one bit of it!
...Unless by travelling into the future they plan to forsee their mistakes and correct them before they occur... these people live in fear of the future, and also lack the imagination required to fix their problems in the present.

Time is a measurement. it is abstract. A construct conditioned into our reality so that we may better grasp it. It doesnt really exist..... so how do you physically travel through something that doesnt exist.

Dr. Omni, can you telepathically communicate, i think we are at very very similar stages of our development (im sure you are a bit ahead of me, physical age wise that is, but yes indeed it seems to me)
i imagined my entire day in math class and made it seemingly last for hours (where as it only lasted for minutes of confusion before), it was amazing because for the first time i saw polarity between male and female that was not soley inside my head.)
haha, if you dont mind pm me back a response to this because i probably wont read t his post again for a while, peace

more importantly we are... light, which itself controls time
well we dont control it completely (but most of them dont like it when we control it, ahahahahaha) but it is easy to bend if you understand the subtle balance between imagination and experience
or you can think of it as imagination and intellect as einstein said
"Imagination is more important than intellect"
more important than that is the balance :P

I dont think there is any "IT" to control.... time is in the realm of perception.... by controlling our perception, then maybe we can control the absurd idea of time, but by that time you will realize how ridiculous the entire concept is.
what is it? define time....

time is our perception of change
i can stand there and think about and analyze what someone is saying in a conversation for hours (or what seems like hours to me) in the 15 or so minutes i am talking with them
i have met people who do this but are not aware of it happening, its almost completely subconscious.. the thing is i have control over my subconscious
and my subconscious controls my perception of time
you see where im coming from
also imagining im in a different thought realm makes it much easier for me to think of things, its like i imagine a different thought realm to expereince thoughts in and then i simply return to the area i was at, subconsciously i can remember it perfectly so that is not easy, and thus my subconscious 'faked or imagined' me being in another thought realm for a certain time limit, but my conscious mind (mine actually expreiences both, but most people experience only one) is illusioned to only being in the first place
so time is merely a measurement of our progression through our own subconscious thought realms, one which is universally acceptable, and with the right knowledge, it can be illusioned rather easily.
does that point you in the right direction a bit better?

yeah, i think we are on the same page here. Im not saying that it is impossible to bend the perception of time, because it is your perception, you can do with it what you want, but time being extrinsic to ourselves, like 4 o'clock by society standards, isnt real, and therefor impossible to move back and forth in.
As well as I think it is impossible to go back to a previous event, or skip events to be in the future, because consciousness is an unstoppable stream, to travel forward you would have to cease to be conscious (aware), which means falling into non-existence.
