Can't say that I have. I wouldn't try bleach unless I felt 100%. Bleach leaves a fine residue thats hard to get rid of unless your manualy do it. I don't know if those temps. would do this. Sounds risky to me. Maybe others will have a better answer for you.

soak it for 24 hours, then pastuarize at 170 (as said before) for around 45 min. No worries!

i agree with everyone. water at 165-170 will be enough. leave out the bleach it's pointless when dealing with that much heat.

I tried bleach 3 times with no luck. the bleach seems to lock in the water causing the straw to stay too wet for inoculation first the rye kernals germinate causing it to grow grass (straw) then a few days to a week later the green meanie moves in. (related to being to wet). I even tried letting it dry out 2 days after bleaching then innoculating it and still no luck. i dont recomend this mehod i find nothing works better hot water pasturization @ 160 to 170 degrees f

I took 1 Tbls. and 1 Tsp of hydrated lime per gallon of water to help bring the Ph up and then put about 5 pints worth of straw and put it in a nylon laundry bag you can get at walmart for 3 bucks. and then i submerged the bag in a good sized pot and put a 5 pound rock on it so it won't float and cooked at 165 degrees for 1 hour. with no presoaking. you really got to squeez the crap out of the bag after it cools, especially if the straw is in big sized peices. i like mine around 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inch size peices. theres more surface area, and less risk of water getting trapped in long solid peices of starw. good luck.

Soak straw for only two hours prior to pasteurization to protect its texture and fiber. Bleach works due to its high Ph, but hydrated lime works better. Use one cup of hydrated lime per ten gallons of 140F to 170F pasteurization water for an hour to an hour and a half. Drain well and use. Don't squeeze the water out. RR
