extra time to get stuff done without sacrificing ability to focus (once in the rhythm of it).

As a person who often fucks up my sleep schedule I can testify that the following is a fact:
When you are in a period of transitioning from the sleep rhythm that you've allready got going on and a different sleep rhythm that you're forcing your behavior to follow... you will tend to feel pretty lousy.
The effects I notice are that I'll be perpetually tired, I'll feel like it's bedtime at seemingly random points of time that aren't really related to either schedule. I'll have difficulty with some higher cognitive functions (complex math, logic, problem solving, understanding speech), and I experience very unstable mood swings.
So you'll probably feel generally unhappy until the rhythm you are following now becomes programmed into your mind's software. For such a drastic change as this, I'd guess that it will take at least one week before you can start to be reasonably certain that it's the sleep schedule itself that is causing any differences as opposed to the transition.

It sounds like you're waking up pre-REM...

Oh, also be on the lookout for these symptoms:
Change in appetite, hearburn/upset stomach, short term memory problems.
Those are usually associated with feeling fatigued, in my experience.

well, i went down for the 4pm nap... probably fell asleep around 4:30, woke up at 5, but dozed back off from 5:30-6pm. i dont know what that does for the schedule. i feel freaking great, though... wide away. i thought of just starting over again in a day or 2... but that would be quitting. even with the fuck ups i am dedicated to seeing what this is like. i will take my next nap on schedule at 8pm.

haha you haven't been able to stick the schedule once yet. This sounds like way too much work to supposedly "gain extra time to do things". Just sleep regularly and stop posting on the shroomery if you want more free time.

How could this work with a job or school schedule? I could never do this...I spend like 15-20 mins just gettin to sleep and then spend another 20 trying to get up.

That would be pretty tough for me. I find myself with lots of energy after sleeping even for a very small amount of time. Besides not being able to wake up easily, I can wake up from a nap and not be able to go back to sleep for 24+ hours sometimes. Have you had trouble falling asleep at all on these naps?

Having 5 hours of extra time a day can mean alot more than you think.
But yeah.
It would be tough to get adjusted and such, and also I am not so sure it is healthy. But I am going to look into it further and maybe try it out this summer or next year when I have more flexible a schedule.
I am excited to see how you do.

I heard Da Vinci used to do this...I dont think I could do it personally. Sounds like a lot of discipline is required.

He's doing this new thing. 7 days asleep, 7 days awake.
Bimonthly sleep.
