Inducing Pinning
    #526813 - 01/20/02 06:28 PM (21 years, 10 months ago)

I have trays of colonized brf/rye/shit/verm cased with coir. I have already deep scratched. Should I also cold shock in the fridge? If so, how long at what temp? Thanks for the help in advance.

These trays were cased almost 3 weeks ago with no signs of pins.

cold shocking might be what your casing needs. The temp doesnt matter to much as much as how much your temp drops...a 10 degree or more drop is good.
Be sure to make sure your fridge is clean and sterile. Heres a little more on cold shocking VVVVVV

why is this the wrong forum? This isn't PF-tek. It took me 12 hours to get an answer to this in advanced. If it was in cultivation i wouldn't have gotten an answer at all. Lighten up. Thanks!

Technically.....this PROBABLY isn't the right forum, but sometimes you go where you have to, to get the answers you seek. In order to help you, you need to provide some information.

Is it FULLY colonized, and for how long? If it has just become fully colonized or is not fully colonized, then just be patient and leave it alone.

Just a few tips on casing... after you case your colonized substrate, don't give it light for a few days and allow it to colonize the casing some. Also, try and colonize your jars using something to keep them around 80 - 85 degrees. Cold shocking helps with pinning but its not always neccessary and from my experience if you leave it in the fridge too long it slows the growing down and won't pin as quick as usual. Something else I've found to work alright is to warm up your grow chamber to around 85 degrees and once you start giving it light drop the temp back down around 75... I've colonized jars at room temp and done that instead of cold shocking and its worked pretty good for me. Hope that helps... how many days have you had your stuff cased anyway?

How colonised is the surface of your coir? I would advise you to keep the casing at 85 for a couple of days and then lower to room temp for a couple, then back to 85.
