Amanita Muscaria var. Formosa?
    #5267662 - 02/05/06 09:47 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

I collected these amanitas in a cemetary in Cambria, CA. They appear to be a variety of muscaria, but I'm not sure which. The caps were bright yellow upon picking, but have turned golden since then (pics were taken about 3 hours after picking). The gills and stems are white. I had collected some red/orange muscarias in the same area, about 2 weeks ago, but they seem to have been replaced with this yellow variety. Am I right in thinking that they're formosas?

Peace.

Hmmm. These also look a bit like Gemmatas. Looks like coloring on the stalk would suggest this possibility, in addition to the fact that formosa is supposed to be absent from the coast range.

Yeah. On doing some further research, I think they are gemmata. There was distict yellowing on the base of the stem.
Thanks.
