Which is better???
    #5267272 - 02/05/06 08:19 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

Is it just personal preferance or are there better grains to use than others? for instance using rye versus cracked corn or BRF? just a question that crossed my mind while trying  to figure out which i should use. also does this have any thing to do with potency or is that related to growing conditions? any help is much appreciated

Rye berries are supposedly the best and most nutritious of the grains. It is the grain of choice for commercial mushroom growers. However, WBS is generally much cheaper and easier to come by, and works perfectly fine for spawn, so is generally the most widely used grain.

Rye is king if you plan to fruit directly off the grain, but WBS rules for spawn material; it's cheap and plentiful.

No,
Rye for casing and then fruiting.

WBS for spawning to another substrate like horse manure.

My G/F finds them - for me.

If I find great deals on rye, I mix some in my WBS mix.
