Corn cob bedding experiment.
    #526681 - 01/20/02 03:24 PM (23 years, 29 days ago)

I am trying a method that I haven't heard of before. I was at the pet store looking for new substrates when I saw corn cob bedding. It is dried cobs that have been cut up into 1/2 - 1 pea sized particles. I plan on experimenting with the cob to water ratio. I will be using a method similar to the rye technique. I plan on soaking the cob for 12 hours, placing in 1/2 pint jars, and placing a lid w/ hole and tyvek on top. PCing and innoculating w/ multispore. I will update w/ pics periodicaly.

If anyone is familiar w/ a similar tech or has any thoughts on the subject please post.

Joshua

do a quick search and look in the index of TMC & GGMM.. i remember some discussion of both this and tomothy hay (or something along those lines)..
I do not remember, unfortunately, if it was extremely successful or not...

ok, update:
paraphrased from GGMM: lower likelyhood of contam, less nutritious though, good permiability by mycelium .. pasturize for 2-4 hours at 160-180..
let us know how it goes.
