in garage fridge...
    #5265987 - 02/05/06 12:19 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

OK I'm going to jail the day after tomorrow....

i have a bunch of jars fully colonized and 2 pans 10'/10' ready...
i want to store all these in a fridge in my garage but it is still winter here..the temp drops down to like mid 20's should i sent the temp of the fridge to like low 40's to give the jars some room for temp fluctuations....oh i might be in their for up to a year...please help me save my mushroom friends from their certain demise

Dude sorry to hear about that.......but for your question it does not sound good, that's a long time for jars I think and you don't want it to freeze, it could survive but the mycelium could be weaker.

SORRY to hear the, keep cool and get out and stay out

good luck to you bro but i think you have more important things to worry about besides your cultivation project. Id focus on that and looking towards starting a new one when you get out.

So going to jail isn't enough; you want to leave an illegal substance unattended for up to a year. A little common sense goes a long way. Get rid of it. The last thing you need is someone finding it while your inside and turning a 1 year sentence into 5.

I would never leave my mushroom grows up to anybody to look after, much less unattended for a year. Paranoia is your friend, start getting acquainted.

OK not what i asked, that is the max i could get realistically like 2-3months...i like to think i always expect the worst, this is a very discrete spot...so do any of you guys have fridges in your garages away from a house...does stuff freeze in them regardless of temp setting..

I have stored mycelium from various mushroom species in my refrigerator. Make sure that it is not so cold that anything freezes, by putting small glasses of water in various spots in the fridge. Adjust temp knob accordingly. If you have a thermometer, use it. I've had good luck at around 5 deg C (41 F).

This is mostly for petris for a couple months and for slants for a loong time. I don't know how jars will do.

Oh yeah, and you'd better make sure they are 100% colonized, or they will probably contaminate, because the mushroom mycelium will stop growing.

That depends on your region and how cold it gets. Fridges are really insulated. It's probably a good idea to set the temp to the mid-40s or upper-40s so that there's room for it to cool overnight.

Whether or not it will work, I cannot say.
And the mods are right about it being dangerous to have "questionables" whilst incarcerated.

Good luck

I doubt any of it will be good after a few months, If you wrap it all up well, it should be ok for that long. After a year or so, youll be lucky if the culture is still alive and you can revive it by putting it to fresh substrate...Id guess.
