Anyone familiar with San Pedro?

I have two San Pedro cactus' that I have been growing forever and they have budded two little ones each. I'm attaching a picture of one. If I were to harvest one, what you you suggest I do?
Anyone familiar with San Pedro?
I'm all ears.

From what I know you blend it up and drink it yummy lol not really. Or you can become a chemist and extract the mescalin.

Basically you just have to cut it up, blend it into a slush-like snot and boil.
Or
Dry out the pieces and grind into a powder. Soak this in alcohol and strain out the powder. Evaporate the alcohol and eat the resulting tar-like substance.
Or
Read up on how to do a full extraction. You don't have to be a chemist to do it. It's really simple.

This seems like a great site, but should I cut my cactus in half? Will it start growing from there again? And what about the little ones?

You can cut you cactus and it will heal and start growing new arms eventually.
One thing to remember is that cactus strength varies greatly and you may not have enough cactus yet to get a good trip off of. Don't get discouraged if this is the case. It just means that you need to try again.
Good luck

One of them is about 22" and the other is 20", should I just wait?
I have no problem waiting until the summer to do this. I'm just curious and thank you for the replies thus far.

You should have at least one good dose. If you used all of your cactus then maybe two.

Think that after the first year they usually grow up faster, maybe more doses worth the waiting. Personally, I like a to have a big cactus and harvest the arms (once they are big enough) it produces.
If you are willing to take one dose, I'd choose the 20' one and let the other grow.

I was definately only going to harvest one. I live in Boston however, so these things have been inside for the better part of 4 months, hopefully in the summer they will get ample sunlight.

Wait until theres a good 2 foot chunk in the middle of one, leaving 4" on bottom and at least 4 on top. That way you can replant the tip and be doing the propagation of your cacti a *favor* by having more plants, rather than setting them back as you would be just chopping and eating.
Thanks duder, great post.

I'm not familiar, per se, but I have a contact whom would probably tell you to let them grow much more. In fact, I would wait until you have several extra feet for each plant. Then eat roughly the 24" for a good effect. Your going to need a bigger pot, as well. BTW, the total effect for the length suggested, judging from the size of the diameter of your cactus, it would be a good idea to have a nice stretch of time that you would have no problem with roaming around acting kinda weird. Also, its probably a good idea to wait for cultivation, if not for dose, then for the sake of having a cactus to use later. Using a home grown plant is more of a personal experience, I'm told, so you should just take your time with it, there are several good extraction methods described in detail on the net, and they have cultivation and care tips as well, if they're worth thier salts. Hope this helps, take it easy.
