I have a big 3.7 g mushie tht i pick out of my tank last week. It had a little bit of cobweb mold groming off the mycelium on the bottom. Is it still good to eat? I compleatly dried the mushies and picked off the cobweb strands.

Are you sure its cobweb? Do you have a pic? I wouldnt worry too much about a small amount of cobweb, down the hatch!!

OK, I just started my second attempt at growing. I don't have a PC and I could only get prints, although they are from a reliable source. I boiled my BFR/Verm jars for 1 and a half hours, with water half way up the jars and tape on the 'noc ports. I had to use Insulin needles instead of 10cc needles (I know, but I didn't have any other options). I squirted 2 ccs of homemade spore solution into each jar, by QUICKLY opening the jars and pushing the needles through the verm layer and squirting. I know this is all terrible technique but i didn't have the right equipment. I tried to be as sterile as possible, but i think my methods were unforgivable. Here's the results:

These pics are pretty much textbook cobweb, right? You know, there aren't any clear, upclose pics of cobweb on any of the growguides/ troubleshooting areas, perhaps these could help other noobies know what to look for.
I guess the lesson here is DO NOT CUT CORNERS. DO IT RIGHT OR YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME. I've done this twice now, boiling the jars. Last time out of 17 jars I got 3 that weren't contamed, and this time out of 7 I have most likely ZERO viable jars.
I have bought a PC, and 10cc syringes and mycobags are on the way. I'm done effing around with contams.

Looks like text book mycelium to me mate. Next time innoc by poking through the foil on the lids, rather than taking them off altogether.
I think what you are seeing is mycelium, let it grow and see what happens.

ill agree with the top poster. next time try to be a lot more sterile, you could have use a piece of tyvek while the lid was off (free as your local Post Office).
but let it go and see waht happens. what strain and what method of LC did you use?

Everything written here is a lie, a fabrication meant to indulge other's imagination for taboo.
It's been nearly a week since those pics were taken. Since then the spots of grey/white have filled in considerably. It now looks that at least some of what I thought was cobweb is in fact, (no gloating Otto), mycelium. I can only positively ID one jar as contaminated, and it was one of the dead jars. The pos IDs contam is lipstick, NOT cobweb. In response to Random, I didn't use LC; I used spores in insulin needles.
---- I have since made a new batch, using a newly bought pressure cooker, some 12 CC syringes from an animal feed store and some 1/2 pint jars. I used WBS for half of the jars and PF formula for the other half. I used 2 ccs of spore solution in each 1/2 pint jar. (I make my syringes, so I can afford to be generous. anyway, the three spore syringes I made only used 10% of the whole print. If you are safe and prudent, one print can 'noc an obnoxious amount of jars/substrate.) I was much better prepared and much more sterile. I will keep you posted on both batches.
Once more unto the breach, dear friends...

and with the larger jars it will take longer, giving contams more time to strike!
