eligal said: actually i didnt learn a thing from it... what was i supposed to learn?? not to drink and drive?? i already told you, i knew it was wrong, but anyone who has ever drank knows that there are times when common sense flies out the window (maybe some of you dont drink enough... lol).
I've been so drunk that I woke up in a pile of cow shit on the edge of some woods, I had no idea where I was when I awoke, I had only a few vague memories of my adventure to that location that included a fall that should have hurt me badly and of course running into dozens of trees. I was scraped up and crusted with blood and I also remember looking in my car, seeing a friend that was passed out in the passenger seat and another in the back seat, I droped the keys under the seat and deciding to walk 4 miles to my house because I know what kind of menace I am sober and knew that I wouldnt be a better driver when I was drunk
a couple of things I've learned about people that get DUIs, they rationalize any excuse to claim they are capable of driving, thy often tell themselves they drive better when they're drunk and try to convince others, if that were the case they wouldnt have a DUI on their record and their car wouldnt be wrapped around a tree in some guys yard, they try and convince themselves they are not that drunk and driving shouldnt be a problem, they learn they're wrong
what people need to learn is something I've learned by watching others, family and friends that have had DUIs, many of them multiple times, my stepfather had 8 before the courts actualy did something, back in the 70's the laws were much more leinient. He showed up drunk for DUI school and they sent him home, knnowing he had driven there.
Anyway, learn to impose limits on yourself, for me after 2 drinks I may be capable of driving but I wont drive for at least 3 hours, after 4 drinks someone else will have to drive, more than 4 drinks and I usualy just decide to sleep in the car because I'm on a bender. When it comes to designated drivers, I'm willing to allow the a couple drinks but at the point I see them order a 3rd drink, I stop drinking, I wont be getting screwed because my DD drank more than me and insists he needs to go home after closing time.
if you are incapable of setting limits and sticking to them, you probably aren't responsible enough to have both the privelidge of driving and the luxury of drinking, this makes me sound like a dick but to be honest, if I can go 22 years without a DUI, being from a family of alcoholcs and drug addicts then anyone can. The most important thing to remember, if your excuse wont work with the cops, it shouldnt be working for you.
if you get caught driving on your suspension, they'll add another year, get caught a second time, they'll take it for 5 years, just something to keep in mind

My 24 year old uncle was driving drunk late one night, in his brand new '96 turbo eclipse, his pride and joy. Going down some back country roads that he knew like the back of his hand. His best friend since elementary school was in the passenger seat. They were coming back from a restaraunt where they had drank one or two pitchers of beer. They hit a slight curve at 120mph and he lost control, an animal was in the road and he swerved to avoid it..overcompensating. The car hit a ditch and flipped 12 times as it flew over 200 yards before landing in some guys front yard. He died. He was my only role model and my best friend, and one of the smartest guys I have ever known. His best friend was ejected from the window and is paralyzed from the neck down, I haven't seen him since. He couldn't even come to the funeral, since he was in the hospital. It was the saddest day, week, month, and year of my life. My entire family was completely devastated. He was the youngest of 6 kids. Even though I know his spirit is at peace on the other side, it still brings tears to my eyes to think about it. So young. I'll be 24 in 10 days. And next month marks the 10 year anniversary of his death.

That's a sad story. Unfortunately, they happen far to often.

You should have seen the car.. it was crumpled in every possible direction, nothing was right.
I have been hit by a drunk driver too, when I was 7. I was riding my bike in the street and this guy hit me head-on. My bike went under the car, but luckily I went over it. My head cracked the windshield, and I skid on the road for about 50 feet. I remember everything.. the impact.. the blur of colors as I spun through the air.. the people crowding around me.. my parents running up screaming thinking I was dead.. the helicopter picking me up.. I got angry because they had me strapped down and wouldn't let me look out the window. I didn't break anything though, it was a miracle.. except a fractured leg, and thousands of pieces of glass and gravel and dirt embedded under my skin all down my ass and thighs and legs.. they had to pick it out with tweezers for hours. That was the worst part.

Bullshit, they can detect LSD in your system if they are looking for it, ESPECIALLY if they have you while you're still tripping.
Well, they didn't manage to detect it in my blood, and they were definitely looking for it.

in my state, you lose your license for 6 months for any drug conviction, whether you're anywhere near a car or not. i got nailed for two drug offenses stemming from the same incident... no driving for me in '06.
i've never driven drunk, never been in an accident, and never gotten a ticket. after this suspension is done i'll have 15 months of no license racked up.
fortunately i live in a place where a car is not a requirement.
