Which way should my cakes stand.
    #526389 - 01/20/02 06:33 AM (23 years, 2 months ago)

My first cake became fully colonized yesterday so I took great delight in birthing him. However I have just read that the cakes need to stand fo another 1-2 weeks in the jars. Then when you birth them they should be placed the same way up as in the jars. Are these facts true as my cakes will stand alot easier lid side down. Also can anyone suggest a simple way of heating them as currently the temp is around 65 F. Thank you for any help you can give.

I wouldn't leave it in the jar for another couple weeks. Maybe a couple days jsut to fully finish off.

One of my elves stands his cakes on edge, cradled on the ring of a canning jar lid. He uses the smaller lids from 4 oz jars so it kind of suspends the cake, allowing free air flow everywhere.

Then he adjusts the cake depending on where the pins appear. Often, he says, the first pins appear on the bottom of the cake where it is darkest.
