For the disbelievers, I'll show you the truth with your own two eyes.
That's my host for this Sunday. Im Orthodox, I try to go to church at least once a month.
Dont make personal assumptions that have nothing to do with Philosophy or Spirituality such as personal attacks on whether whoever knows what the definition of a word is. You think you're dead on, when you actually completely missed the point.
All Im asking is a little respect for fellow members, and you just persist on making ignorant remarks, maybe thinking that you're trying to make a joke.
Some people speak from the heart, and when you attempt ridicule, it only reveals your weakness.

Consequences? What, you posting a picture of yourself holding a piece of bread? Actually, I hadn't given this thread another thought since yesterday, but apparently your fragile ego isn't ready to move on just yet.

Wow, one of the most self-contradictory and hypocricy-ridden posts here to date!
First, you throw out one of the cheapest cop-outs telling me to give a rest after I confront your ignorance, and then ask why I relented. Well played, sir! And thanks for the lesson on my ego ... Totally relevant!

This thread gave us the opportunity to learn what relics mean to people who value them and for all of the other philosophical/spiritual implications of relics to be expressed. Instead it turned into a bitch fest of personal attacks. Why? Because the moderators continue to neglect their duties.
*braces for ensuing drama*

Okay Fospher, I concede that you do in fact know what a host is, and even eat them occasionally. Thank you for the closure.

Wow. Evident in this thread is exactly the lack of humor that eventually became Swami's demise here.
If you can't handle a little joke in the form of "makes a nice sex toy" - please, feel free to crawl over to the hole which we refer to as the MR&P forum.
The last thing I want is to have some rule in this forum that reads: "Warning: Fragile Ego Zone - any and all incidents whereby one insults another's ego, no matter how unintentional or good-willed, will be consequenced with administrative force, read: lifetime, forum-wide ban!"

What makes the situation even more ludicrous is the fact that blasphemers have desecrated religious objects by using them as sexual objects throughout human history.

Did I say that my, or anyone else's views cant be questioned here? No. In fact I said the converse, by all means, question everything. But irrelevant posts prone to offensive response are nothing but trash. I was just cleaning up.
Thanks!

Al this reminds me of a quote markos laid on us a week or so ago. I'm paraphrasing.
"Taking offense causes just as much suffering as being offensive"
Had you brushed off his post as a joke we wouldn't be talking about this now Though I fully understand how someone poking fun at something you take very seriously to be offending.

Um, did you realize that you just said two things that completely contradict each other in one sentence?
Quote:

Yeah, how so? Well I take offense to some things. Maybe you laugh at everything, me, I dont. I have things which are sacred to me and will stand up for my values.

Your reaction explains a lot of the problem here Skorp. Fosher, i suspect is not religious like myself. I agree 100% with Paradigms post and I would bet Fospher does to.
That said, neither he nor I could be personally offended. Objects are objects until we place meaning on them and I give no religious significance to any objects.
There may be readers here who do and would be clear that for those who do, his comment was disrespectful and offensive not funny.
Do you have any idea how many people leave or won't post here because of that stuff? Is this forum ONLY for those who can take ignore stomach, understand or appreciate crude rude humor?
Thats what OTD was created for. This is the philosophy and spirituality forum. What do great sex toys have to do with it?
Fine with me skorp and starsaddem if you want this to become indistinguishable from OTD. Let it tank down the sewer. I'll say no more. I have other spirituality forums to go to when this one plummets into the sewer if members and mods let it.
My apologize for interrupting starsaddams lack of self control to bring OTD type offensives into the spirituality and philosophy forum. Soon he will discourage even more posting then what would happen if people kept a better check on it here. People can debate aggressively all they want too. His comment was just meant to offend, not impart anything we can learn from.
If you want P&S to fill up with that crap skorp, why not let this forum stay distinguished from the others and just go read and post in OTD to get your offensive humor fix? Simple.

Your black and white, all-or-nothing thinking does not convince me. There are several shades of gray, of degrees here. I, for one, have seen MANY sexual innuendos here in the past, by Swami, Ice, Veritas, me, even YOU, and others as well. The fact remains, the very context of this forum as explicity made as it is, already governs most people. This is because most people are quite rational and reasonable - in these respects, at least. This is why, as you seem to insinuate to the contrary, this forum will never turn into "crap" or an "OTD".
Do you have any idea how many people leave or won't post here because of that stuff?
Do YOU have any idea how many people won't post on here or have left, because of the occasional joke? I certainly don't pretend to. But at the same time, I remain confident of the probability that such a number - if at all existent - would be very, very small. So small, that it would be downright negligible.

Please tell me how I contradicted myself, it is unclear to me.
We are operating under different contexts of the word suffering, which in term makes our thoughts on the quote incongruent. My point is had you ignored the crude humor rather than displaying your offense to it, the other posters would have not ridiculed you as you wouldn't have given them an opportunity to do so

I'm responding to the first post, but this is really to everybody here.
The "host" is not a piece of bread symbolizing the body of Christ. It is the body of Christ: body, blood, soul, and divinity.
I know you can't understand it, it is not something to be understood; it is beyond the categories of the understanding. You are what you eat.
There are larger realities than the arrogant can perceive; there are bigger realities beyond the horizon of the understanding.
Those who think that the split between P&S and MP&R gives them license to be trolls in the philosophy forum should be warmed. Trollery will no longer be tolerated in this forum!
Play nice or be a troll, if you chose to be a troll you will be excluded from the conversation!

Actually, we are the body of Christ, as Paul explains.

Maybe you are, but I sure as hell am not the corpse of an epileptic Jewish fool.
If anything, we are all the body of Jeffrey Dahmer, a gay, cannabilistic serial killer. That would explain human nature a lot better.
People here need to learn to take a joke, too. How come it always seems like it's the fanatics and religious people who get offended, and the skeptics who get banned for it? Just because we take mushrooms, we're supposed to be believe in obscure and unscientific bullshit? An interesting question, and not entirely rhetorical.
