The cult of relics

Relics -- sacred objects -- have been the cause of a great deal of religious violence. They are based on the corrupt mixture of materialism with religion. People want to touch the divine, and rather than turning inward, where God can truly be found, they instead look to holy people and the objects associated with them. This is even more destructive when it comes to holy places. The ground upon which holy people walked is likely to also be the ground upon which much blood is spilled. One need look no further than modern Jerusalem to see this. Three groups who simply have different names for God do unspeakable things to each other in His name in order to hold on to ground they consider sacred. This is blasphemy of the worst kind. Attachment to things of the material world draws us away from God, not towards Him. The Kingdom of God is within you.

I agree... except for the archaic concept of God. God is external... no matter how you spin it.

Religious objects atract both evil and good. It doesn't matter what it is. Good wants to keep it, evil tries to fuck with everyones head, trying to cause evil. It is not that any of those sides are really evil. It's just that evil doesn't want to be known as evil and does it's best to confuse everyone to it's true nature. People who think they are RIGHT and HOLY, will try to stomp on everyone they perceive is WRONG or evil. It's always the best intentions but the masses follow who they think is right, even if that person is a fool. Right and Wrong are real, it's that there are so many different versions of each, that it gets confusing. Which is exactly what evil wants. Follow your own heart not what someone wrote long ago. There are a hundred versions of every side. Do what you think is right. Believe in whatever your heart says and ignore what people do and say. Remember we are all human and we DON'T know the real answers.

Yeah, this isnt the Pub nor OTD. Threads made here are actually made to be learned from with communal input. Why the fuck would you post something like that here? Not only is it counter-productive, but it's only aim is to offend and piss people off.

No, it wasnt. It's easy to ridicule religion and spirituality, and yours was a mere attempt to deface something respectable.

Its the wafer served in church blessed and symbolic of the body of Christ as the bread offered at the last supper was symbolized as such.
The bread has sacred symbolic meaning to religious people.
Do you believe people come to a philosophy and spirituality forum to learn about what makes good sex toys? They go to the Pub or OTD for that.

I was implying the relevance of that post, not a definition.
You can question someone's beliefs and be constructive, but disrespectful remarks dont belong here. Not here, in any other forum I wouldnt have said anything. Many post here for the very sole reason.

But it's good for natural selection.
Anyone idiotic enough to not only believe in holiness, but actually fight for such a delusion, is taken out on both sides of the battle. Sadly, religious people often breed a lot, thereby counteracting this effect to an extent.

Belief and disbelief are opposite sides of the same coin. They are both faith.
