The ego is tricky. Accept that that's what you occasionally think, and continue on.

>> Why would you think you're better than anybody else?

I know, it doesn't make any sense. It's just a mental habit.

Sometimes I see faults in others that I've overcome. I can recognize them because they are familiar to me. It's as though I forget that I was that way once too, and that I still have many faults. It's a bit of a paradox: although I'm able to recognize the faults in others because I have direct and recent experience with them, deluded pride is able to block me from remembering that the person I was then is contributive to the person I am now, and that for this reason there is no realistic separation from either the person I was or the people around me.

"Do not focus on others' faults. Rather, focus on your own and purge them like bad blood. Do not remember your own good qualities. Rather, remember those of others' and respect them as a servant would." --Atisha

I think it is good to think you are better then someone, only if being better than someone means you will help them improve. There is nothing wrong with being confident and in love with yourself.

Sure, but pride isn't an expression of confidence or self-love. Pride is a compensation for a lack of these two important qualities. Pride puts a person at odds with him or herself, causes him to adopt a distorted view of his environment, and to behave in ways that are harmful to himself and others.

Wow, that just about summed up my problem sometimes. Although mine pretty much goes in the form of thinking other people are stupid. I try to humble myself and tell myself everone is equaly reasonable, just availble to different cultures with different ideas and different education levels. But people can be quite disapointing sometimes.

All ya's got to do is realize had you been born into the same body as theirs at the same time you would be exactly the same as them.  All ya's got to do is stop associating your "self" with the self that exists in this physical reality.  Easier said than done :tongue2:

A serial killer = a saint
We are not judged by what our minds think, it's the way we are made. If you have no conscience why would you be held accountable for not having one? If you have a strong conscience that will be taken into account, when you do evil. If you had evil or good forced down your throat, that is understood. What ever is out there is quite reasonable. I believe that we are all balanced in the same way. When you die all of your life is looked at and the stuff you can't change about yourself is held in the balance. There is not some big boot waiting around to stamp out our existence when ever we make mistakes. One with no conscience is as innocent as a
child. We seek to punish evil not to understand it.
