depleting cakes to trigger mycelium in another substrate?

could i cut apart my depleting cakes and mix the mycelium into a substrate to inoculate it?

Umm I guessing yes but the possibility for contaminates is greater..

yeah thats what i figured... i also do my stuff in a pretty sterile environment but i figure if i could crumble my old cakes into new substrate it might make for fast colonization times

If your going to try it, dunk cakes first.
Spent cakes are better for starting outdoor beds.

LOL!... But I've done it. The results aren't great. It's slow to colonize and doesn't fruit well. Yes contaminates are more likely.
