Thats why I want to try poo or straw next time. I have unlimited supply, so it should be easy...even if I do screw up.

Well, the veil from one of the bigger ones has torn apart.

Should I just wait to harvest that with the others?

Nice, since I don't know how much I'll be getting from this one I'm going to wait til my second flush before I trip.  That way I can have enough for a good trip.

But, who knows.  These new pins could turn out to be a lot bigger than what I'm getting.  Either way, I'm just glad I actually grew my own mushrooms.  So, this has been a great learning experience.

If I were to pick that one...would it be a high risk for contams?

Lookin good! I think you would have had more pins actually if you would have had that high humidity constantly.

And I think I read somewhere that low humidity causes the skinny ones and high humidity causes "fat asses." Someone else can chime in on that, I could be wrong.

But no matter, thanks for the pics! You are doing well for your first time.

Good luck!

Fatasses are strain/substrain related nothing to do with RH. Skinny stems with undersized caps are a sure sign that CO2 concentrations are too high (more fanning needed).

I know you can mist casing, but I was wondering if the same was true with cakes.  I doubt it, due to the high risk of contams and aborts...but, just wanting to know for curiosity's sake.

I'm just going to post all of my questions here instead of littering the board with hundreds of little questions.

You don't mist cakes directly. You just mist the perlite or walls around them.

I know, that's what I've been doing.  I was just wondering if the same technique used for casings could be applied to the cakes.

But, nope.

I ultra fine mist my cakes from a distance with a pump style mister and it works freakin awesome for me just like in nature!

Yea, on my next grow I'm definitely picking up a humidifier. I think I rushed this one...

This is true tokey. But different teks might work better for different people.

I did THREE PF cakes before moving onto WBS spawned to poo. Never made another cake. I find it easier then PF actually..considering pay off.

So basically what I'm saying is. Just because you had bum luck with cakes doesn't mean you won't master casings first time. Of course having a good understanding in the basics of ANYTHING is always a great start.

Yea, actually I was thinking that cakes are more trouble than they're worth.

I mean, I have plenty of H. Poo just laying everywhere outside.  I can always just keep doing it and doing it til I get it right.

True, I guess both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Well, I'll probably try cakes one more time...maybe more.  Hell, I might do some cakes and casings at the same time.

I love this hobby.  :grin::mushroom2:

That's the way to think. I'm sure you've still got plenty of BRF left, no use letting it go to waste. I've got plenty of poo and a 40 lb bag of WBS, but I've still got BRF cakes incubating because I have so much BRF leftover from my first grow. Plus 1/2 pint jars work best for cakes, and there's no reason to let them go to waste either.

Well, I Just harvested about 3 of them.  They were really mature and dumping spores everywhere.  I'd say I have about 2 to 3 more days before some more start becoming mature.

I have them drying into a chamber with a fan on it.  No desicants, but the fan should do the job if I leave it on for 24 hours.

I use the 1/2 pints I have from pf to make prints in then add water and make syringes right from the jar.

Well, one of my big ones seems to be shriveling up on the cap.  Probably just going to be an abort.  Had a few of those so far, all small though.

Oh well, I still have a few more big ones going and a big abort might be  nice, since I know you can still eat them.
