you also want to fill the pearlite with waiter until its just under the surface of pearlite layer, you need some water in there a good amount of water in there.

Thank you guys.

I'll probably go rehydrate my perlite with a good soak right now.

Perlite is like swiss cheese. All the little holes in it make for a larger surface area. This allows it to evaporate the water into the air creating a high humidity environment. The perlite is useless if it's underwater.

I'm going to wait til tomorrow to do it.  I've put my little guys through enough stress right now.  Besides, I don't want too much humidity in there.

So, I'm going to see how well they do tonight.  And if seems like the humidity is going down...then, I'll resoak my perlite.

Good rule of thumb that will keep you out of trouble is 2" perlite 1" water/h2o2. You should always have water/h2o2 in your perlite! At least if you know what your doing that is, also don't listen to peeps that say just dampen your perlite they have no clue how to create the perfect microclimate for our little friends. Also read my pinning strategy it may shed some light on what you are actually doing. GL my friend

Ah no you don't. You want water at half the depth of the perlite or so. That much water and you'll lose alot of that precious surface area (under the surface) Get it?

Oh yea, I know all the facts about that stuff.  I've been researching for well over a year now.

Thanks for all the help, everyone.

I just misted everything and they seem to be doing just fine.

Alright, well I just resoaked my perlite and placed everything back in.

I hope everything turns out alright. I know it will, just a little nervous.

I was just wondering why my pins are taking so long to really get growing.  Been about 4 days now.

I was just fanning and noticed that the perlite looks a little dry.  I pressed my finger into and its absolutely dry.  Would this be slowing down my pins?

How would I go about rehydrating this?

Well over a year? Well then you'd know right?

A word on standing water/h2o2. It shouldn't be a problem at all if you keep things relatively clean and add h2o2 every once and awhile during the grow then after the grow resterilize the perlite for the next grow. Adding water/h2o2 will solve your problem simply enough. Again GL and keep your mind open you still have much to learn.

Well, I just meant facts about humidity in general.  Sorry, didn't mean to come off as a smart-ass.

So is it ok to use perlite for the cakes, or just as the dry topping?

I heard you were only supposed to use vermiculite.

Perlite is for humidification only on the bottom of your fruiting chamber.

Yea, I just rolled mine in Verm.  Kept the perlite on the bottom.

Since I did re-soak my perlite, they've begun to bloom in growth.

Are you asking about the pins?

Cause on one cake, its a full-blown shroom. But, at the base of the baby shrooms, there all white and fluffy.

Low nutrients in the cake could contribute to there small size as well. Some BRF is better then others. The fresher the better.
