Hippy Chefs of the world Unite............

Who here is actually a chef?
I would like to build a kynd folk chef network. I know a few already but if we all had some central point of dicussion forum & could exchange ideas, share experiences, benifit from eachother. I know some shroomerites who started their own site for like 10 bucks a month. There could be forum titles like, things like........
Spanish---learn it know it, you are a chef, you need it.
Food Suppliers---Compare prices, available products
Recipes---Share your best of your best in this forum, like show what you got, maybe even have contests.
Entertainment & Promotion---How do you draw your crowds?
Software for Resturants---Discuss/Share/teach-learn
Tricks of the Trade---does this or that save time/money effort/expence?
Chefs Lounge---Discuss your favorite music/drink/cigar
Food Shows/Expos./Show work---Post pics.
Sysco--A Forum just for Sysco related topics
Culinary in your off time---Do you perhaps cook at rainbow gatherings or throw dinner parties??, post pics.
Well, any positive feedback is welcome here.........

Mango pancakes!
But the thing is, I'm not a professionally trained chef. Even if I pretend to be 'ever I step foot in my kitchen! Does that count?

Well, I like the idea insofar for myself because I like cooking for benefits, like I cooked a benefit for Ammachi followers once and raised 14,000 bucks for them. The only thing is, I work for them for a few days so don't ask me to fucking pay for anything. Being a chef you know how it is to work your ass off cooking a menu under completely homespun and adverse conditions. But then, a good amount of money, and hopefully goodwill can be made. So I would like to do more of that for willing volunteer spiritual groups if I could find out about them. I'm talking the more eastern groups.
That said, as far as your folk network goes some of the topics sound good, some sound unimportant like the Sysco thread. Fuck Sysco. You need em call a rep or go online and study their stock. The food suppliers, entertainment and promotion, and software sound like good ideas, especially the software That I'll jump at.

How Can you possibly say that a "Sysco" forum is unimportant? They are my main supplier, i buy between 9 & 15 grand worth of food from them a week on the averasge, i would have some need personally for the dissusion in that forum.

http://www.ccc.ca.gov/SPECIAL/BACKCNTY/bcpage.htm
I did backcountry when I was 20 and it kicked ass.. I did lots of things as a Corps Member but Backcountry and cutting trail was the toughest.
They are alwayas hiring cooks to lead Backcountry groups in Yosemite and other National Forests. Cook jobs at Backcountry kick ass. Real campout cooking for a large group 7 days a week 10 hours a day.
They are hiring right now. Pay is pretty good and being in the woods for 6 months you wont spend any of it.. When I did backcountry and I did it as a corpsmember and only got about 6K out of it but cooks can make 20 to 25K and have a great chance of moving straight to a full time position with the State.
Damn, now I want to do it...

Definetly. Even though just about EVERYONE in Backcountry gets high.. People have the stuff mailed to them.
Its a temporary state job so background and drug screne are mandatory.

well, how far back does the background check go? And, do they know what you were arrested for or what the person was actually convicted of??
Is everyone pretty much a head/hippy ?, or is it a mix of diffrent folks?
What were your personal experiences while involved? Good or Bad. Were there personallity conflicts or did most everyone just go for the team effort?
Were, ya'll fed well? , did it look like the chefs had it going on or was is a major bitch for them to even deliver slop. Did you you feel that the deduction from your monthly pay for food, covered your needs?

Age is no concern for the cheff. Corpsmember jobs are 18- 23 and they are general voulenteer labor. The camp cook job is a temporary state position and its open to people of all ages..
Other jobs you dont see listed involve the transport of supplys to and from the camp sites and main site inventory and distribution jobs.
All need to be filled every year for backcountry.. You should send in an application and see what happens.

Background check probably wont be too invasive.

Its a big mix of diferent folks but most are heads or hippys but with diferent backgrounds and races. Everyone is real cool people though. Most who arent heads end up as one anyway cuz theirs not much to do deep inside a national forest and after a 10 hour work day breaking rock and hiking 20 miles, nothing is better than smoking a joint and eating supper.

Very well. Fresh fruit always available and big portion meals. Food is about as good as it gets as far as camping meals go. Once a week or every other week when the delivery arrives they will bring fresh steak or chicken but for the most part the food is dehydrated and powdered.
Thats why they need good cooks though.. Our cook used to make fresh pasta and red beans and rice with canned chicken and every morning he made kick ass breakfasts.

Man, that does sound very freakin' awesome..
If only I hadn't already spent the last 18 months dedicating my time to a business start-up that is proving to be quite lucrative. I wouldn't want to nullify all this time spent, even though the instant gratification of that job would undoubtedly be primo solid

Well, I'm a sushi chef of a little over one year, so I'm still rather amateur. But I do like your idea for a chef network, because I have a lot to learn, and I'd really like to expand my cooking repertoire. I might even be able to contribute some knowledge from my limited experience

20 years in business.. started washing dishes at 16.. worked my way up and then went to school...last 10 years as a chef running small kitchens. Hung up my knives at 37. One thing that is cool about working in kitchens... always a connection for something!! Foodies are heads that like to eat good!!
