Second Grow (Casing)

Hi all, just letting everyone know that my second crop will soon be underway. This time, I will be using a Casing technique and hope for a much higher yield than last time. I will keep anyone who is interested updated on my progress, but there won't be much activity for a couple weeks as my supplies are arriving in the mail. More details to come, and pictures of the entire process too.
Also, check out my first grow! http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5076144#Post5076144
Thanks for stopping by.

List of supplies, prices, and provider:
4 Sterilized wbs grain half pint jars 1 Substrate bag that has been sterilized (about 4 - pounds) 1 Casing Material bag, premeasured, sterilized 4 vinyl gloves All the above...........$25(includes ship) (online service)
2 metal baking pans.....$1.50 (Wal-Wart)
Bunch of spore strains..$0.00 (Allready had) (Huatla, B+, Amazonian, Burma, Puerto Rican) ______________ $26.5
I will still need to get some saran wrap and possible devise some sort of humidity tent to put over the pans which will hold the casing.

Due to unforseen circumstances (the online provider who I had bought jars from in the past has gone out of business and is MIA), I will now be making my own substrate. Since this is the case, I bought myself a 22qt. pressure cooker. Production therefor will begin on or around June 1st when I can actually use the PC.

Here we are back again with production in full swing...In the first pic there are my jars inoculated with Burma, Huatla, and Puerto Rican strains. Used WBS+Verm and BRF+Verm...did a couple different teks, including the one where you bake everything and then inoculate the water and hope the mycelium colonizes faster than mold haha So the second pic is of a jar I have that may have some contams (i was thinking cobwebmold) but i will let you folks be the judge. so here they are

Some shots of an aborted, contaminated, cased baking pan. I actually did this when I made my jars and totally forgot about it in my closet...checked it today and saw that mess. Worth a shot though.
Contamination looks like green mold on top, and brown mold on the bottm. I spooned up some chunks and flipped them over, alot of healthy mycelium underneath as well which was surprising.

Update: Cased one cake, put another cake in fruiting chamber. They were the same strain so we will see which method works for me (hopefully both) but the casing was a bit warm when I put it on the crumbled cake so we will have to see!

hehe that healthy mycellium you saw underneath very well could be the healthy trichoderma mycellium which turned that casing a lovely shade of green

Horay for Casing 101!!!
Edit: I guess I should update:
Crumbled one fully colonized cake (a 1/2 pinter) in saran wrap (couldn't find ziplocks) and placed chunks ontop of wet vermiculite in the pan. Then I sterilized some cowpoo/compost mix and used it as casing material.
Since I only crumbled a half pint I didn't apply casing too deeply and mycelium popped up in 2 days (the picture is today, the third day).
Then I put the pan into the fruiting chamber where it is ~10 degrees cooler and recieves 12 hours sunlight.
I also have a whole 1/2 pint cake that is also in a fruiting chamber and is starting to pin.

Update: I made another casing with one of the PF cakes I had. For this one, it was cased directly in a tub. Casing is CPOO+compost .2% Nitrogen and .2% Pothash.
Is it OK to use a birthed cake then later use it in a casing?
I was also doing alot of reading and am very interested in the alcohol extraction for shrooms. I hope to have enough to try this TEK out.

If you mean a freshly birthed cake yes. If it has already produced a bunch of mushrooms then it will probably colonize very slowly if at all.

has the mycelium started to poke through on the top? If it has, yo should probably patch it...
p.s what are you using as a fc? Cuz what I do is take 2 freezer ziplocs and cut off the left side on both, then i tape them together and then walla, humidity tent, then i get a tuppaware container with no lid and fill it with damp perlite, and put it in there with the casing. If you want I can dig up my camera and show you a pretty good pinset that im getting right now.

yes, as you can see in the picture, mycelium has poked through. my FC is a tupperware container with lid, with perlite+water on bottom then the casing tray.
updated pic: Before Patch.
 After Patch.

Would simply putting saran wrap over it be the same for a humidity tent?

Update:
1st casing/patched(pan in tub):

2nd casing/patched(tub):

In the second pic you can see a spot of mycelium. It originally formed on the side of the tub (so it must have been a piece of substrate that clung to the side) and then worked its way down onto the poo.
Third casing is in a tub, still in the dark incubating.

This is an opinion from a new grower so take it with a grain of salt, but if both containers have been patched once already, they should be put into fruiting ASAP. Again, IMO, it looks like casing #1 is perfect for the fruiting chamber while #2 is a little late (but better late than never).
On the other hand I made the exact same mistaken and I got a wicked pinset, so...
Congrats on the grow. Looking good!

Update:
Looks like mycelium on casing #1 receeded or died so a deep scratch will be performed in hopes of saving it.
Casing #2 however is doing awesome and there are basically pins all over...not sure if you can see them in the pic, but I mean ALL OVER the place.

What a happy 4th of July pinset!
Casing #3 has been removed from darkness and shows healthy mycelium popping up nicely.
