My cow manure had a ph of 4.5-5

My cow manure had a ph of 4.5-5, what is the norm. I added hydrated lime to bring it up, it sat overnight and is at 7 now. It may explain some of my poor results with it. I got a new ph tester, non-digital. I also tested it in some store compost and the ph was as per packet, 6.5ph so it is not an error. Reads 7 in water too.

Ideally it would be at 7.8 I think anything under 5.5 will kill myc.

mushrooms love it when the ph is @ 6.5 - 6.8 ish. lime leaves your substrate quicker than oyster shells do so expect a slight change.

Yep it should be higher for it to grow. I am just wondering what ph it is usually at in its natural state. I never heard of people having to add lime to manure before. Is this normal or did I find some crazy cows

wait, this was dry poo? that is nuts. i realized that fresh would be too high of a ph more likely than too low, even though i've never tested my poo. "ammonia is like ph11," i thought,"so he must have dry poo that is really low."

i'd like to know what happened to that cow shit.

I asked em, but the didn't know
Not sure I would guess beef only since I know the main dairies are in another place.
The cow shit was ancient. Very dry and with firefang.
