Right time for poppies
    #5257781 - 02/02/06 11:46 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

I've heard late December or late Feb. was a good time so that by October they would be grown, but for Central California what is the best time? Right now it's pretty decent weather probably 65-72 degrees right now, any ideas? Should the someone wait till late Feb. or start growing them now? Someone also might be getting a green house but right now someone is having financial problems it might not be possible so what do you guys think? You see it doesn't give direct direction as when to plant these at this here link http://www.shroomery.org/forums/printthread.php/Cat/0/Board/Garden/main/4016111/type/thread , which is why someone's here to ask if anyone knows when its best to plant them what temperature? Someone thinks late February since thats when weather usually changes someone needs someone who knows, Someone know alot of Asians who grow poppies but someone doesn't literally know them so someone couldn't ask. Someone does know California is a superb place to plant poppies its just someone just needs to know when.

Ok needs to be warm, so now is the correct time am I right? So should someone germinate them now or wait till it gets even warmer about a steady 70 degrees what do you all suggest?

I'm not an expert, but no one seems to be helping you out.

Seems to me that if it isn't going to freeze again, all should be well?

You are in California! You are always warm by comparison to Arkansas, and poppies here go in now (we are having a warm winter and little chance of freeze)
Always start poppies as early as possible! They love to germinate in the cool weather and are harder to get started after any warmth at all - hurry!
They seem to grow well ehough in warmer temps after they get their start in the cool. If you think it is going to frost, just cover them
I just saw the thread.....
Also - it does not take as long as some of the stuff out there says - my last poppies were done before the mid-summer. They were started in Feb. Because it was colder that winter.
Best Wishes!
