Cased rye berries works great. 50/50+ works great. Martha works great. I think you will be pleased moving up to grains. I started with cased WBS, then moved to WBS spawned to hpoo and never looked back. You'll find that grains are faster and simpler than BRF, but it's good you've got some experience under your belt. BTW, you don't actually have rye "cakes". You colonize, crumble, and case. You're moving beyond cakes. Yes, it does matter what you use for your substrate and your casing layer, but you can't go wrong with your choices. Yes, Martha keeps 'em nice and moist. You're coolmist/ultrasonic humidifiers will work great for FAE and high RH. GL.

Rye's better for straight fruiting (casing), and WBS is better for spawning (more inoculation points). Here's a great WBS Tek --->HERE<---. Just follow it to the T, and you'll have shrooms coming out your ears.

hey man just go with 50/50 it will work fine , if later you would like to try something new then do it. but first you need to do it like 50/50 is the only way ,after you try ed it and know what happens with the 50/50 maybe then try another tek. i too when i first started was confused then i decided to go with 50/50 it worked great, but there maybe a little tweaking that needs to be done to water content, but long as it is close you will be fine.

Rye is great for spawning. It seems wbs sucks at just fruiting from it (but that is mixed) and that is why every one says that it is better the rye to spawn. one piece of rye is like the size of three millets so its really not like millet has all that much more to it. and if you mix it insted of layer it you will save some time.

Third flush off straight WBS cased with Verm/coir - it works just fine to fruit off if you have to -

I'm making the switch with you supersapien, you are not alone. after having great success with BRF cakes i went ahead and threw the rest of my brf in jars and inoculated them and now I'm switching to WBS. is that 50/50 casing being talked about coco coir and vermiculite or is it peatmoss and vermiculite? i think I'm going to use peatmoss/verm. because i already have both and i don't know where to get coco coir
