Was the spore syringe 6 years old? Or just the spores?
As long as the spores were hydrated (even 6 years) it's quite possible.
If the spores (print) were 6 years old and just recently made into a syringe...
It's possible... but highly unlikely, unless they were allowed to re-hydrate for several days.

yeah, what he said.... still though, 6 years old? I've heard 1 and 2 year old spores that were kept in a syringe and stored in cool/dark places working, but 6 years? even in ideal conditions, it seems semi-unlikely.

The oldest viable syringe I've ever had was over 5 yrs old.
So a 6 yr old syringe isn't that much of a stretch, to still be viable.

how long did it take the spores to get out of dormancy and start cultivating? 2 weeks? I mean damn, thats a long time. I've had spores pushing a year and it took about 1+ weeks for them to start showing noticeable cultivation.

I've heard of spore prints that were 20+ years old being used that were still viable.  As long as the conditions were optimal, I'd believe it.  Spores are tough suckers, but keep an eye on it just to make sure it is in fact mycelium.  :thumbup:

interesting. 6 years is along time but if you've got mycelium growing, WOW! 2 days is too short to see any kind of growth, with spores that is. the shortest time i've seen growth was after atleast 4days, and that was with syringes that i just ordered. i guess just keep an eye on them.

Heres an update, the 2 day Mycelia was not Mycelia , so i was a mold farmer for a few days, but now i realy do have mycelia in my agar, so it is possible to get 6 y/o spores to germinate.

My mold experiment was from a syringe that was supposed to be Hawaiian. but it was con tamed, but the pf syringes where not hence i got live mycelia.

so there ya have it 6 year old PF spores germinate. when they get fully colonized i will be growing them on wbs the h poo. what do you all think? if i have a pint of wbs in a 3 quart container is that enough to get the h poo colonized?

I've successfully done PFTek with a 6 year old spore syringe (PFC) quite viable and extremely potent.

Im not good with your old ways of measurement, but that sounds ok. Wait for a fellow non-metric user to tune in and tell you though, I refuse to research the conversions. Get with the times America... :wink:

Rogerrabbit reckones syringes should last longer than prints. And I think was mentioning 20years.

_otto_
quart = liter
pint = 500ml = 1/2 liter

so i'm talking about a 1 to 5 ratio

Yeah its a bit of a light spawn ratio but you will be fine - it will just take a bit longer to colonise.
