ok i shall follow the rules and give pictures. not sure, but should try anyways. sorry that they are a little past date. forgot about them till today when i picked.
* Habitat: in landcaping around my house. at the base of a tree, in the soil and the boarder of the lawn/soil. * Characteristics of the gills: were dark, have turned VERY dark. * Characteristics of the stem : short, nothing special, off-white, skinny. * Characteristics of the cap: nothing too strange here, crackes on the top though, probobly due to age. * Spore print color: N/A, but on the way * Color that the mushroom bruises: N/A * Scent of the mushroom : lightly earthy * Anything else you might find important: i picked em a day or 2 late, as another bunch a foot away was dead.
side view of the harvest.

top view

heres a cluster of them.

a closer pic of one of the best, and most intact.

Looks like a psathyrella maybe? Did the stem break or snap very easily? I see what looks like some snapped stems in a couple of those pics. What part of the country are you in? In any case, I don't think it is active. Don't eat it! Let us know the spore color and wait for some of the experts to weigh in.

Look like coprinus to me too. That cracked cap and dry look is kind of rare for coprinus. Kind of looks like they were out in the sun for a while or something. The size is strange too, which I can easily see could lead to some confusion.

No - The only coprinus species that I would bother eating is coprinus comatus. A lot of the other coprinus species can be hard to identify to exact species and can be toxic when combined with alcohol. Coprinus comatus is rather easy to identify by its size.
