quick question so that hopefully my next grow isn't a complete failure

alright i just tried my first grow and im about ready to say that i have completely failed. 2 cakes colonized and i fruited them. (brf/verm strain-b+) both got green mold. 2 other cakes never fully colonized but sunday im going to cut off the uncolonized part and then dunk/roll them anyways. but the question is i know the brf shouldbe fresh. i didn't know that at first and it was about a year old. so does it matter if the verm is about a year old? or should i get new verm as well.
also, does anybody prefer brf/verm/water ratios for a 1/2 pint cake that are different from the magic mushroom growers guide. (you know, the long one. its on erowid too.)

I would make more cakes next time...then you won't have to worry if one or two gets contamed.
Did you pressure cook your stuff last time?
I would get fresh BRF next time as well. What I did was just wipe out your incubation and FC with a light bleach solution. If you really want to be safe then make a glovebox. I don't know too much on that...but there has to be a thousand old threads on it.
Good luck on your next grow.

Your Verm. should be fine. As far as I know theirs no experation date. when I happen to use BRF (rarely..but sometimes), I don't even remember what the mix calls for. I just do it up by eye. do you have a PC?

i didn't pressure cook them. i did the semi-sterilizing with steam. and right now i did this in my room wher ei have to be stealthy so i can only afford to do 4 there. but i have a friend that says we can go bunches at his house here in a couple of weeks. so hopefully that will go much better.
