My alternative to a TIT for heating
    #5255568 - 02/02/06 02:23 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

Now i know i had seen somewhere on here before where someone had put the heater in a jar of saturated perlite. To me, considering the amount of deposits i get on the heater with just water, that didnt seem to good (but im not saying it doesnt work). So i simply made a hole in the jar lid, and wedged my heater into it, filled the jar with water, and fired it up. Overnight using this i was able to bring 50 degree ambient temps to low 80's with my 200 watt at half power. After actually reading the directions for the heater, i notcied it states to be used upright on the side of the tank only, so to me it seemed this is the reason all others ive used have died. Now with this setup the only part of the heater in the water is the glass tube, so no seepage through the seals, and it would seem this would greatly improve the life of the heater. So there you have it, nothing stellar, other than the expense of a bit of space in the FC, i dont see why those with heater problems havent tried this, maybe now u will;)

P.S. I find that if you simply put the heater in there, but with no lid the water evaporates very quickly, but adds a good amount of humidity to the air. Also, being a cook, if you want a good source for a few gallon glass jars, find a friend who works in a restaurant, most throw many of them away fairly often.

Why do you have a heater in a fruiting chamber? Mushrooms will fruit just fine at room temperature. Excess heat will not only dry out your substrate, but will increase the chance of contaminants as well. 65F to 75F is perfect for fruiting. Above that is asking for problems.

^^^ i will 2nd this statement, it seems that there is no need for this or am i confused?

your fruiting stage requires a high RH and a low tempature.
