My friend will be going away in a few months. I want to send him care packages through the mail every now and then. What techniques do they use to scan packages. What would be safe?

We need more details than this, however reluctant you may be to give them. Where is he going? Off to war? That's the impression I get from "care package." Either that or prison.

All packages and letters sent to inmates are opened and inspected. At least all mine were.

they even cut off the stamp so no acid on the back of them. Sending stuff to someone in prison probably would get you a room next door.

Cut off the stamp... but can't you just dip the letter in acid?
The only way to stop it from getting there would be to photocopy all leters. Who the fuck would want to trip in prison anyway?

I probably would, it might get a little cramped, but I'm sure you would be used to it after awhile. At least your mind could be free for awhile.
