replenishing nutes into your LC jars
    #5250421 - 02/01/06 09:15 AM (18 years, 1 month ago)

i've noticed how quick you can deplete an LC of 70-90% of it's myc and still have a LOT of solution left over.
as long as there's still shreds of viable myc in the bottle/jar, it should continue growing/producing - right?

is there a rule-of-thumb for adding more nutes, whether it be Karo or Malt/Dextrose?

sorry if this has been asked alot already.

I would use one LC to inoculate a new one rather than adding nutes to an old one.

Every single time you want a LQ syringe, PC a sryinge and some clean LC water fresh made (water and add your sugars. Then fill the syringe with the fresh stuff, inject that first (it will help break up the clumps too), then suck out the same amount you just injected. If you also put some peices of broken glass in the bottom to help break it up and evenly distribute the myc throughout the LC, then you should get many many nice looking syringes out of it. You should be able to use all the water though, if you just break it up well everytime before filling your syringes, say you have 200ml of LC, fill 20 syringes, chaking vigerously before each one, then store the syringes in your fridge..then when your getting low you can knock up a new culture, as fooman suggested.

Yep, what Foo & scat said. Old LCs are full of waste metabolites. I have toyed around with adding more sugars to get a super thick LC, it doesnt work too well. I was doing it to harvest myc, a LC is best used fresh and young IMO

cool.
i need to start using jars.
i can't shake the baby bottles hard enough w/o water and air exchanging thru the little holes in the base of the nipple.
i think my myc just isn't breaking up well enough and my syringes are too thick. (the marbles aren't cutting it)
i kept getting clumps in the needle when i was nocc'ing the jars and forcing out a clump forces out a lot of LC - accidentally.
