Amounts for cakes using LC
    #5252547 - 02/01/06 07:50 PM (18 years, 11 hours ago)

I just got an LC going thanks to Otto's post on LC's for dummies .
It should be ready this Sunday and i'm going to get some more 1/2pt brf jars going then.  I was wondering what a good amount of LC is for each jar.  Also how much should I back off on the water when I mix my substrate so I don't sog out my cakes when I inoculate them.  Thanks for the help

can't tell you. its sorta a feel it out thing. don't back off the water in the substrate much though. unless u plan on adding a lot of LC. easyest way it just add one cc of LC like you would with a spore solution. that way you don't have to screw with your substrate water ratio.
good luck

When I do liquid culture inoculation I always back the water off so that you really have to squeeze the substrate for any water to come out. A tight squeeze should only yield a few drops of water. The liquid culture makes up the difference in moisture content.

Now this application is proven for bulk substrates. I can't bee 100% sure in your application though.

For grain jars, I use 2.5 CCs per jar (4 squirts on the sides, one in the middle). But grains can take the extra moisture, sometimes I'll end up using 3 or 3.5.

If you'd like to plan on using 2CCs per jar (that should be way plenty for half pints), you could do this: when you measure out your water, use a syringe to pull out 1 CC of water (the PF tek calls for 1CC to begin with). Now you have room for 2CCs.

Several warnings: PF jars are on the dry side, so it's not like the extra LC solution is going to just distribute itself throughout the jar. The extra moisture will mostly remain right where gravity (and a little capillary action) took it. I wouldn't go over 2CCs. Also, pulling out water is something I've read about... haven't actually done it. It might be the case that you could prepare the jars per instructions, and simply add that extra CC with no bad consequences. Deviating from a tek is called "experimenting"

Also, don't count on 5-7 days for your LC to be ready. It's done when it's done. I let mine colonize at room temp and they take around 2 weeks before they're fully mature. You know it's done when the bottom half of the jar is a big cloud.

This should overall make my cultivation faster. And stretch out my syringe till i get a spore print
